The Office of Research, Innovation and Community at Cave Hill (RICCH) was first established in 2017 as the Cave Hill Campus Office of Research and Innovation (CHORI). Activities undertaken by CHORI increasingly depended on community involvement, including the academic community, the corporate and government community and business support communities. As a result, the Office was renamed to include the word 'community', reflecting the importance of links with key stakeholders.

RICCH and UWI Strategic Plan

The primary function of RICCH is to engage with several stakeholders, both internal and external to the Campus, to support milestones of The UWI Strategic Plan. RICCH makes a contribution in the areas of research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The UWI Strategic Plan 2022-27 is titled 'The Triple ‘A’ Strategy, Phase II: The Revenue Revolution' rests upon three primary pillars: Access (AC), Alignment (AL), and Agility (AG).
                                     
RICCH contributes to all objectives of the UWI Strategic Plan but especially to the following:

Access

Objective AC4 - Improving the quality, quantity and impact of research, innovation and publication.
Role of RICCH - Enable the expansion of support and coordination of research and innovation/commercialisation activities.  

Alignment 

Objective AL 2 -  Increase grants for academic and applied research to contribute to the bottom-line of the University. 
Role of RICCH - Host training workshops on grant preparation and management and frequently distribute grant funding opportunities. 

Objective AL 3 -  Pursue commercially viable projects to increase revenue from commercial operations.
Role of RICCH - Actively engage with members of the Campus community to identify and develop commercial outcomes from research. 

Agility

Objective AG 1 - Restore financial health to The UWI.
Role of RICCH - Facilitate the commercialisation of research outputs which can generate financial returns for the researcher and institution, as well as for the end user and the country. 

RICCH is headed by the Deputy Principal and is supported by staff from the Office of the Deputy Principal, Office of the Principal and representatives from other departments making up the Innovate Cave Hill virtual network.
