Entry Requirements:
Admission to the Master of Education programme will normally require:
- A Bachelor’s degree of at least Lower Second Class Honours and the Diploma in Education of The University of the West Indies or any other diploma or certificate in Education acceptable to the School of Education;
- A Bachelor’s degree with courses in Education acceptable to the School of Education;
- A Bachelor’s degree and a Teacher’s College Certificate that are both acceptable to the School of Education;
- The Bachelor of Education Degree the UWI or
- Any qualification deemed to be equivalent by the appropriate committee of the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
Course of Study:
Students are required to successfully complete
- Three (3) to five (5) courses in the area of specialisation
- Three (3) compulsory courses
- Elective courses according to the selected area of specialisation, and
- A Research Project
Areas of Specialisation:
The MEd has been approved for delivery in the following nine (9) areas of specialisation:
- Curriculum Studies
- Educational Leadership
- Inclusive Practices for Special Needs Students
- Language & Literacy Education
- School Counselling
- Science & Technology Education
- Social Context & Education Policy
- Testing, Measurement & Evaluation
- The Psychology of Education
Reseach Project:
As part of the MEd, students are expected to complete a Research Project in an area identified as a priority research area in their chosen specialisation. The Research Project should not exceed 15,000 words (exclusive of notes and bibliography).
Duration:
For full-time students, the degree programme runs from September of one year to July 31st of the following year which is the deadline for submission of the Research Project.
