About the Programme

This programme is based on established epistemologies in the field of Inclusive Education. It is a practice-based course of study that uses a clinical model delivered in a developmental sequence.

The spiralling of the courses offered will enable teachers to locate their practice in the real world context of their classrooms and bridge the gap between research and practice.

What Will I Study?

You will discover:

  • The key ideas surrounding inclusive education
  • How to improve your practice in classrooms using evidence-based practices and research-based models
  • How to cater to student diversity
  • How to assess all students in your classroom using formal and standardised assessment practices
  • How to use Universal Design for Learning in instruction

Research

Research on Inclusive Education is burgeoning in the Caribbean with pioneering research being undertaken by Caribbean academics in the field.

Admission to the Master of Education programme will normally require:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree of at least Lower Second Class Honours and the Diploma in Education of The University of the West Indies or any other diploma or certificate in Education acceptable to the School of Education;
  2. A Bachelor’s degree with courses in Education acceptable to the School of Education; 
  3. A Bachelor’s degree and a Teacher’s College Certificate that are both acceptable to the School of Education;
  4. The Bachelor of Education Degree of the UWI or 
  5. Any qualification deemed to be equivalent by the appropriate committee of the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
