About the Programme

Fostering the development of Assessment and Measurement Literacy!

This programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the theory and application of assessment practices, measurement and evaluation methodologies and statistical techniques that will allow them to enhance their classroom teaching experience or to pursue careers at regional or international testing and assessment organisations.

What Will I Study?

You will discover how to:

  • Develop high-quality classroom assessments
  • Assess the psychometric properties of large-scale tests and classroom assessments
  • Evaluate educational programmes and projects
  • Use statistical techniques to analyse data to aid in educational decisions

Career Opportunities

If you want to:

  • Improve your classroom assessment skills
  • Work as a Psychometrician at a Local (e.g., TVET Council), Regional (e.g., CXC) or International (e.g., ETS) testing organisation
  • Work as an Assessment Education Officer 
  • Prepare for a career as a Testing and Measurement lecturer in a tertiary institution 
  • Consult in the area of Programme Evaluation and Assessment Methodology

Admission to the Master of Education programme will normally require:
  1. A Bachelor’s degree of at least Lower Second Class Honours and the Diploma in Education of The University of the West Indies or any other diploma or certificate in Education acceptable to the School of Education;
  2. A Bachelor’s degree with courses in Education acceptable to the School of Education; 
  3. A Bachelor’s degree and a Teacher’s College Certificate that are both acceptable to the School of Education;
  4. The Bachelor of Education Degree of the UWI or 
  5. Any qualification deemed to be equivalent by the appropriate committee of the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
