  • Fieldwork – where you will hone your practice and work with individual students with literacy challenges.
  • Workshops/Professional Development Experience – Students in the Language and Literacy cohort form a collaborative and supportive learning community. Learning is formal and informal. Expect to learn from and engage with diverse experiences and perspectives as well as from the formal curriculum.
  • Language Arts Leadership and Literacy Coaching – In addition to exposure in adult and professional development, students have the opportunity to observe literacy coaches or teacher educators working in local schools.

What Will I Study?

You will learn:

• How to use research-based practices to positively impact the lives of learners of all ages
• A comprehensive approach to literacy from the combined perspectives of research, policy and practice
• How to conduct an appropriate and accurate literacy assessment in schools
• How to develop a literacy intervention plan that engages learners in their own success
• To develop knowledge and skills to provide teachers with professional development and literacy training as a school-based literacy coach or a teacher educator
