• Where is the Office of Graduate Studies and Research located?

The Cave Hill Office of Graduate Studies and Research, is located in the Postgraduate Teaching Complex at Paradise Park, The Lazaretto, Black Rock.

To reach the Paradise Park site turn left at the traffic lights when exiting the main Campus, go down to the roundabout at the bottom of University Hill, follow Highway 1 north and make the first right turn after the Esso Gas station.

As a landmark the Archives is in the same general area.

• What will it cost?
Postgraduate programmes are considered in two categories.
 

1.    University Grants Committee- funded programmes (UGC), and

2.    Self-financed programmes


The category determines the fees which are set by University Committees and reviewed annually.

• Can I get a scholarship?

A few postgraduate awards are available to students undertaking full-time research degrees (Master or Doctor of Philosophy.) A few scholarships are available to Taught Masters programme. Visit the Scholarship and Funding section of this website.

• How and when do I make payments?

The programme fee for students enrolled in self-financed programmes is billed on registration.

Students in UGC-funded programmes are billed the relevant tuition fees and, where applicable, economic costs every semester until their degree is awarded. 

Note that all financial matters are the responsibility of the Campus Bursary.

To remain on the Register of Students all students must register on-line every semester and pay the applicable fees until your degree has been awarded

• What is the difference between full-time and part-time student status?

Students who undertake a full course load are considered full-time even though the courses are delivered in the evening and on weekends. 

A part-time student is one who undertakes half of the course load and therefore takes (usually) twice as long as a full-time student to complete the same programme.  Fees in the table for UGC-funded programmes are the annual full-time fees.  A part-time student in a UGC-funded programme is billed 50% of the full-time rate annually. 

Research students who are employed for more than 12 hours a week must register as part-time.

• What is sponsorship?
Sponsorship refers to the payment of all or some part of a candidate's fees by a third party.



Sponsorship does not cover University fees which are the responsibility of the student and are payable every semester on registration.
 

Countries which contribute to the running of the University have policies governing sponsorship. It is the responsibility of students urged to check with their Ministry of Education (or equivalent) regarding the policy of their country.  Letters indicating what portion of fees will be covered by the sponsorship must be submitted direct from the Ministry to the University.


The contributing countries are: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts/Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, The Bahamas, The Cayman Islands, The Turks & Caicos and Trinidad & Tobago.  Bermuda is an associate contributing country.

• What if the programme I want to do is offered at another Campus?

You should apply directly to the Campus which offers the programme you wish to follow. Click here for the websites of the St. Augustine Campus,  Mona Campus, Open Campus and the Five Islands Campus.

• What is the Campus' Refund Policy?

• What is the difference between applying to and registering for a programme?
Applying to a programme means that you are seeking to be enrolled in a programme of interest.  Re-entry applicants (those who had withdrawn from the programme and have been given permission to re-join) are also considered to be applying for enrollment.

After you have been made an offer, and have accepted it, you will be eligible to register on-line during the published registration period.

Applying to a programme does not guarantee that you will be made an offer.

• Why was my application not accepted?
You may not have been accepted because:

·         your application had outstanding documents,
·         your transcript was incomplete,
·         your reference reports were not supportive,
·         the programme was oversubscribed,
·         your application was submitted after the deadline,
·         your application did not satisfy the entry requirements, or
·         your research proposal could not be accommodated

• I applied last year but did not take up my offer or defer. Do I have to re-apply?
Yes.

It you did not accept the place, or accepted the place offered but did not defer you will need to re-apply because, due to space constraints, your application documents would not have been retained.

• How will I know that all documents have been received for my Application?

You can track your application online by going to "Track Your Application" in the Apply Now and follows the steps shown there.

• Can I apply for more than one programme?
Yes.  You can prioitise and choose a first option and then a second option from the programmes list 

However you can accept only 1 offer and, in addition, you can be enrolled in only one programme at a time.  If you are already in a programme at the UWI or elsewhere you will therefore need to complete it or withdraw from it before enrolling in this one.

• What are the specifications for submitting my acceptance photo?
1. 51mm × 51mm (5 cm × 5 cm /2 in × 2 in)
2. No shadows on face or in background
3. No sunglasses; face obstructions, or hats
4. No borders
5. Must not be older than 6 months
6. Front view, full face, open eyes, closed mouth, and natural expression
7. Full head from top of hair to shoulders
8. White background
9. Normal contrast and lighting
10. Head coverings and hats are only acceptable due to religious beliefs
11. Sunglasses or other accessories detracting from the face as defined above are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example)
