
Sociology is a key discipline in the study of society. ‘The Bachelor of Science in Sociology (Special) is designed to develop students’ critical thinking skills and furnish analytical tools to explore the discipline of Sociology. It offers theoretical insights into the fundamentals of Sociology while exposing students to practical lessons and experiential learning areas. This programme is structured so that during the first year, students are exposed to introductory courses in sociology. In the second and third years, students take core and specialist courses in Sociology. More specifically in third year, they engage in critical analysis and cover broader theoretical areas. The programme emphasizes the Caribbean context and the importance of culturally appropriate concepts, theories and methods to analyze its realities.
