The Confucius Institute at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus is the first centre in the Eastern Caribbean to offer a wide range of Chinese proficiency testing.
The CI offers the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK; Chinese: 汉语水平考试), the standardized test of proficiency in Standard Chinese for the People’s Republic of China for non-native speakers such as foreign students and overseas Chinese.
The CI also offers the Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi (HSKK; Chinese: 汉语水平口语考试 ), the Mandarin Level Spoken Language Exam.
The CI offers the Youth Chinese Test (YCT), the international standardised Chinese language test, which is directed at examining non-native primary and secondary school students' ability to apply Chinese language in their studies and daily lives.
In addition, the CI offers the Business Chinese Test (BCT), an international standardized test for Chinese language proficiency, which assesses Chinese speakers‘ abilities to use Chinese as a second language in business and working environments.
Candidates from other countries can take the exams at the Test Centre at the CI at the Cave Hill Campus.
For online tests, candidates must register and make payment (via the prescribed means) and take the test on line at home.
For face-to-face tests, once candidates register and make payment (via the prescribed means) they must come to Barbados to take the test at the HSK Test Centre at the CI at the Cave Hill Campus.
HSK test candidates taking the test via the Test Centre at the CI at the Cave Hill Campus need not be students of the CI at the Cave Hill Campus, although that is preferable.
