Certificate in Aviation Management

Registration is Open

Leading the Business of Caribbean Aviation

Aviation keeps the Caribbean connected—to people, markets, tourism, trade and the wider world. But managing within the sector demands far more than an understanding of how flights operate. Aviation professionals must make decisions in an environment shaped by changing passenger demand, intense commercial pressure, complex regulation, safety obligations, rising operating costs and a global industry that can shift quickly.

The Certificate in Aviation Management is designed for professionals who want to understand the business of aviation more broadly and make stronger decisions within it. Across five specialist certificates, you will explore how the international aviation system works, how regulation shapes operational and commercial choices, how airlines compete for customers and revenue, how financial decisions influence performance and investment, and how risk is managed across aviation operations. The programme brings these areas together through the realities of the Caribbean aviation environment, where small markets, high operating costs, tourism dependence, connectivity challenges and exposure to external disruption can make management decisions particularly demanding. At the same time, you will engage with the global standards, practices and commercial disciplines that shape the international aviation industry.

The result is a broader view of aviation management—one that prepares you to look beyond your individual function, understand how decisions travel through the wider system and contribute more confidently to the performance, resilience and growth of your organisation.

  • Take a live hazard through assessment and decide whether to control, escalate or accept.

Assessment

Each specialist certificate includes an applied, industry-relevant assessment designed around the types of decisions, analyses and recommendations aviation professionals are expected to make in practice. Assessments focus on applying the tools and concepts from the programme to realistic aviation challenges.

The Certificate Pathway

The Certificate in Aviation Management comprises five specialist certificates, each focused on a core area of contemporary aviation management. Taken together, they build an understanding of aviation as a highly regulated global system and a competitive commercial business at the same time.

Certificate 1 – International Aviation Management

Aviation is one of the world’s most interconnected industries. A decision taken by an airline, airport, government, regulator or air navigation provider can carry consequences across several markets and jurisdictions. This Certificate develops the management perspective needed to see how the system operates, where value is created, and how aviation organisations respond to shifting markets, technology, competition and connectivity.

Key Areas Covered:

  • The Global Air Transport System
  • The Aviation Value Chain and Industry Stakeholders
  • Air Transport Economics and Industry Performance
  • Airline and Airport Business Models
  • Aviation Strategy and Competitive Positioning
  • Network, Fleet and Schedule Considerations
  • Technology, Distribution and Connectivity
  • Managing Across Markets and Cultures

Certificate 2 – Aviation Law and Regulations

Every commercial and operational aviation decision is taken inside a legal and regulatory framework. This Certificate is built to help you recognise your obligations, identify regulatory exposure, and know the point at which a legal or compliance issue stops being background and requires action.

Key Areas Covered:

  • The International Aviation Legal Framework
  • The Chicago Convention and International Air Transport
  • ICAO, IATA and Aviation Institutions
  • Aviation Standards and Recommended Practices
  • Civil Aviation Regulation and Regulatory Oversight
  • Air Services Agreements and Market Access
  • Aviation Safety and Security Requirements
  • Passenger and Carrier Liability
  • Aircraft Accidents and Investigation
  • Legal and Regulatory Risk in Aviation Decisions

Certificate 3 – Marketing and Sales for Airlines

Airlines do not simply sell seats. They compete for passengers across markets, channels, routes and price points while working to extract the full value of every customer and every flight. This Certificate takes you into the commercial decisions behind demand generation – finding the right customer and market, sharpening the airline proposition, choosing distribution channels, growing ancillary revenue and converting interest into sales.

Key Areas Covered:

  • Airline Markets and Passenger Demand
  • Passenger Segmentation and Customer Insight
  • Airline Brand and Product Strategy
  • Pricing and Commercial Positioning
  • Airline Distribution and Sales Channels
  • Digital Airline Marketing
  • Ancillary Revenue and Revenue Opportunities
  • Customer Experience and Loyalty
  • Sales Performance and Conversion
  • Marketing Routes, Destinations and Aviation Services

Certificate 4 – Financial Management for Airlines and Airports

Airport managers do not need to become accountants, but they do need to interrogate the numbers behind operational, commercial and investment decisions. This Certificate gives you the tools to analyse airport and airline performance, challenge financial assumptions, control cost, and judge whether an investment case actually holds.

Key Areas Covered:

  • Air Transport Economics and Airline Finance Fundamentals
  • Financial Statement Analysis
  • Airline Revenue Management
  • Aircraft Financing, Leasing and Fuel Hedging
  • Airport Financial Management and Revenue Strategies
  • Capital Structure, Budgeting and Performance Measurement
  • Privatisation and Restructuring Options

Certificate 5 – Aviation Risk Management

Aviation risk rarely arrives fully formed. It builds through small operational changes, weakening controls, recurring deviations and pressures that quietly raise exposure. This Certificate equips you to see what is changing, judge what matters, test whether existing controls are actually working, and make defensible decisions about mitigation, escalation and operational response.

Key Areas Covered:

  • Aviation Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
  • ICAO Safety Management Principles
  • Operational Risk Across Airlines, Airports and Ground Operations
  • Risk Controls and Safety Assurance
  • Aviation Occurrence Investigation
  • Management of Change
  • Safety Intelligence and Risk Performance
  • High-Risk Aviation Interfaces
  • Disruption and Operational Resilience
  • Risk Governance and Escalation
