Programme Overview

The Rules, Rights and Responsibilities of Aviation

Every major decision in aviation is shaped by law. Whether launching a new route, expanding an airport, negotiating airline agreements, responding to a safety occurrence or adopting new technologies, aviation leaders operate within one of the world’s most highly regulated industries. Understanding that legal framework is no longer the responsibility of lawyers alone—it is an essential leadership capability.

For aviation organisations across the Caribbean, legal and regulatory decisions often carry even greater significance. International obligations, evolving global standards, limited regulatory capacity and increasing public expectations require leaders who can confidently navigate complex legal environments while supporting safe, efficient and commercially sustainable aviation systems.

This four-week programme equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to interpret aviation laws and regulations, understand the responsibilities of aviation stakeholders, assess legal and regulatory risks, and make more informed operational and strategic decisions. Participants will explore how international conventions, national legislation and regulatory oversight influence airlines, airports and civil aviation authorities, while strengthening their ability to manage compliance, support organisational governance and respond effectively to emerging legal and regulatory challenges.

Programme Objectives

On successful completion of the programme, you will be able to:

  •  Interpret the international and national legal frameworks governing aviation and determine how they influence operational, commercial and strategic decisions.
  •  Evaluate the legal responsibilities and regulatory obligations of airlines, airports, civil aviation authorities and other aviation stakeholders.
  •  Assess legal, regulatory and compliance risks and recommend appropriate responses to strengthen organisational governance and accountability.
  •  Analyse aviation incidents, commercial agreements and regulatory decisions to identify legal implications and potential organisational exposure.
  •  Apply international aviation law and regulatory requirements to emerging issues.
  •  Develop legally sound strategies that support organisational resilience, regulatory compliance and effective decision-making across the aviation sector.
