The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor C. Justin Robinson as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of its Five Islands Campus, located in Antigua and Barbuda and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic, Industry Partnerships and Planning. His appointment, which was approved by the University Council on July 17, takes effect on August 1, 2023, thus beginning his three-year term.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI), the Open Society Foundations, the African Union Economic Social and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC), the Caribbean Pan African Network (CPAN) and the Government of Barbados have partnered for the ground-breaking Reparations and Racial Healing Study Tour taking place from Monday, July 24, to Friday, July 28, in Bridgetown, Barbados.

 TIME Magazine’s current front page declaration “Slavery Reparations are coming”, has consciously foregrounded the epicentre roles of Barbados, The University of the West Indies and its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles who is internationally recognised as the global iconic face of the movement.

The following statement is issued by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, on the occasion of the 50^th Anniversary of CARICOM.

The University of the West Indies extends sympathy to the nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis on the passing of its distinguished statesman, former Governor General, Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton.
A friend of the University, Sir Tapley was among the most vibrant and visible patrons of The UWI’s annual Global Giving programme. Since 2017, in his support, he hosted the yearly Global Giving & Pelican Award Ceremony at Government House in collaboration with the UWI Alumni Association – Saint Kitts and Nevis Chapter.

The following statement is issued by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, on the passing of Caribbean political stalwart, Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford. 

Environmental researchers will receive much-needed financial support following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Harris Paints, and its Chairman and President, Robert L. Jones. The money will support teaching and research at the campus’ Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES).

The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus celebrated World Environment Day on June 5^th with a lecture on the interventions needed to control the invasions of flatworms, lionfish and sun corals in Barbados.
