A Marketer, Entomologist, Ophthalmologist and Data Science Expert are among the newest Professors at The University of the West Indies (The UWI). The University’s Office of Administration is pleased to announce the promotion of nine academics to its highest rank: ‘Professor’. The cohort earned promotions following a rigorous assessment process that includes an evaluation of the quality and quantity of their research, publications, as well as other professional contributions to the enhancement of the University’s reputation. 

Fourteen eminent persons are to receive honorary degrees from The University of the West Indies (The UWI) during its upcoming Class of 2023 graduation ceremonies, starting October 7. 
The annual tradition of conferring honorary degrees, which coincides this year with the regional university’s 75^th jubilee celebrations will commemorate the outstanding contributions made by these individuals to their communities and the wider society. 

The Latin American-Caribbean Centre (LACC) of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) hosted an inaugural regional dialogue on the impact of climate change on mental health on August 23.

As the Caribbean region marked 185 years of Emancipation from slavery, history was again unfolding in Barbados with a convergence of African Union, CARICOM and civil society leaders for a high-level Study Tour on Reparations and Racial Healing.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce that its Faculties of Medical Sciences have been successfully accredited for an additional five-year period, from 2023 to 2028 by the region’s accreditation body, The Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP).    

The American Association of Geographers (AAG) has announced its first-ever cohort of the new “Elevate the Discipline” programme, which will train and showcase geographers in action—in the media, as voices for public policies, and in advocating for change—on this year’s theme of Climate and Society.

The University of the West Indies community is mourning the loss of one of its first students, Dame Dr. Ruby Lake Richards who passed away earlier this week at age 101.  

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Derek A. Chadee as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Board for Undergraduate Studies. Professor Chadee’s three-year appointment takes effect on August 1, 2023.
