C. JUSTIN ROBINSON - (HEAD, DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES)
Justin Robinson holds a B.Sc in Management Studies (First Class Honours) (UWI), an M.Sc. in Finance and Econometrics (Florida International University) and a Ph.D. (Manchester). He joined UWI as a Temporary Lecturer in Management in 1992 and is now a Lecturer in the Department. Dr. Robinson's research interest are corporate financial management, derivatives, investments, risk management and financial market efficiency. He has published on these subjects in a number of international journals.
PHILMORE ALLEYNE
Philmore Alleyne MBA holds a B.Sc. In Accounting (UWI) and the ACCA. A Chartered Accountant by profession, and a Fellow of the Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (FCCA), he has worked in the Accounting and Auditing profession for sixteen years. He brings a wealth of practical experience to the classroom. He also holds an MBA from Oxford Brookes University in the UK. Mr. Alleyne is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Bradford in the area of ethics. His current research interests are the tax reform process, auditing, ethical decision making ,human resource management and the auditing environment in Barbados.
H. ANTHONY ARTHUR
Anthony Arthus holds a B.A. in Sociology and Economics (Trent University) and an M.Sc. In Tourism (University of Surrey). He has spent more that twenty years in Tourism Management with the Barbados Tourism Authority, serving as Travel Development Officer in Canada, Director of Marketing for North America in the USA, and Chief Executive Officer. Mr Arthur taught Tourism at the Barbados Hotel School on a part-time basis, and was also Lecturer in Tourism at the Centre for Hotel and Tourism Management of the University of the West Indies at Nassau, Bahamas. Mr Arthur has worked as a Tourism and marketing Consultant, and served as Project Leader and Tourism Development Planner for an OAS/Government of Grenada Project, preparing a Tourism Master Plan for Grenada.
JULIETTE BRATHWAITE
Juliette Brathwaite holds a B.A. (Honours) Business Studies (University of Huddersfield, U.K), the Diploma in Education - Business (UWI and ETTC), a Postgraduate Certificate in Adult Education (UWI), MEd. Educational Administration and Management (Leeds) and M.Sc. Project Management and Evaluation (UWI). She has been employed in the UK and in Barbados. Ms. Brathwaite has worked at the Barbados Community College and as a member of faculty at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic - teaching for over 15 years and as Head of Division, Business Studies for over three years. She joined the Department in 2006 as Lecturer in Project Management. Her research interests are in Project Management and Evaluation: International Business Administration and Development: Organisation governance, policy, strategy, analysis and design. She recently contributed Chapter 7 in the book Managing and Evaluating Projects as part of Caribbean research on project management and evaluation.
JOHN BURNETT
John Burnett holds a B.Sc. in Accounting (UWI) and an MBA (St. Mary's University). He is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). He has been a Part-Time Lecturer and Tutor in the Department since 2000 and was appointedTemporary Lecturer in 2005. Mr. Burnett has worked in both public and private sectors for more than 10 years. His research interests include management accounting pratices in the region and accounting and subalternity.
DONLEY CARRINGTON
Donley Carrington holds a B.Sc. In Accounting (First Class Honours), UWI, and MBA (Iowa State University) and the CMA from the Institute of Management Accountants (USA). He joined the Department of Management Studies in 1994 as a Temporary Lecturer in Accounting after teaching at Ellerslie Secondary School for over 14 years. Mr Carrington is an Erdiston trained teacher. He was appointed Lecturer in Accounting in July 1997. Mr Carrington has worked with non-profit organisation in developing accounting systems. He is a Doctoral student at University of Hule and his research interests are costing systems, accounting information systems and human resources accounting.
WAYNE CHARLES-SOVERALL
Wayne Charles-Soverall has a B.A in Phychology (Pace University), M.A. in Political Science (BrooklynCollege) and Ph.D. in Politcal Science (UWI). Prior to joining UWI in August 2006, he helped coordinate the Government of Barbados' two major programme initiaves: public sector strategic planning and performance review and development system. He brings the wealth of 20 years public sector knowledge and experience public management theory and practice. His teaching and research interest include public management, organizational beheviour, corporate social responsibility practice, public policy, and social equity and human development. He coauthored Doing Projects (2000) and Managing and Evaluating Projects (2003). He also published several papers on the issues of stategic planning, organisational development, performance management, and public management.
AKHENTOOLOVE CORBIN
Edward Corbin holds a B.Sc. In Management (UWI) and an M.Sc. (Distinction) from the London School of Economics (LSE). He is currently enrolled in a research Ph.D. programme at UWI. He has been a Part-time Lecturer in the Department since 1995 and was recently appointed Temporary Lecturer. Mr Corbin is a Human resource Management Specialist who has worked and consulted in both private and public sector organization over the past 15 years. His research interest are human resource management, leadership and service quality management.
EMILY DICK-FORDE
Emily Dick-Forde holds a B.Sc. in Accounting (First Class Honours) UWI, a M.Phil in Finance (University of Cambridge), a Ph.D. in Accounting (University of Dundee) and the professional designation of certified Management Accountants (CMA) with the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario, Canada. Her career with the UWI began in 1991. Dr. Dick-Forde is currently researching in the area of corporate environmental accounting, accounting and culture in the Caribbean, and critical theory and accounting research.
GLENDA GAY
Glenda Gay holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Computer Science (UWI), M.Sc. in Computer Information Systems (Nova Southeastern University), and is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Information Systems at Nova Southeastern University. Mrs. Gay teaches Microcomputer Applications for Business and Management Information Systems in the department. She has published an Information Technology text for Caribbean students with Oxford University Press, and has also written Study Guides in Computer Science for CXC, as well as course material for UWI Distance Educattion. Her research interests are in Information Technology and Information Systems.
DION GREENIDGE
Dion Greenidge holds a B.A (Honours) in Psychology (UWI), M.Sc. in Work and Organisational Psychology (Institute of Work, Health and Organisations. University of Nottingham). He is currently persuing his Ph.D. at the Institute of Work, Health and Orginisations, University of Nottingham. Mr. Greenidge joined the Department as a Research Assistant in 2003 and held that position until proceeding to persue his Masters. He rejoined the Department as Teaching Assistant in September 2006. He has been involved in a number of academic and industry-related research projects and has presented work at regional and international conferences. His research interests are the structure and measurement of personality and other individual difference variables, and employee job performance constructs - task performance, contexual performance, and counterproductive work behaviours.
PRISCILLA GLIDDEN
Dr. Priscilla Glidden holds a Ph.D in Management from the Sloan School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.A. summa cum laude in Economics from University of Massachusetts/ Boston. She has taught graduate and undergraduate business students at colleges and universities in the Boston area and internationally since 1980, while working as a Partner and Senior Management Consultant with The MIT Group, Cambridge, MA. Her clients span a wide range of private, non-profit and government organizations in the US and many parts of the world. She has managed projects for companies in the defense, insurance, healthcare, auto, oil and gas, telecommunications, IT, financial services, media and publishing industries. During her career, Dr. Glidden has also held senior positions in several organizations, including a telecommunications NGO, INTELSAT, based in Washington, D.C. She has written a book and a number of articles which appear in academic journals, and has served on a number of non-profit Boards.
JACQUELINE HARPER
Jacqueline Harper holds a B.Sc. in Management Studies (UWI) and a Masters in International Management (Portland State University). She has been a Part-Time Lecturer and tutor in the Department since 1999. Miss Harper joined the Department in 2006 as Academic Coordinator of graduate programmes. She also coordinates the internship elective in the undergraduate programme and is responsible for the job placement of students during the summer.
CRISTINA JONNSON
Cristina Jönsson joined the Department in 2003. She holds a Masters degree in Tourism Management from Griffith University (Australia) and B.Sc. degrees with Honours from Oxford Brookes University (UK) and Griffith University. Ms Jönsson is a native of Sweden. Prior to joining UWI she was as a regional tourism development manager in Sweden working on various projects from ecotourism development to regional branding and marketing. She is well traveled and has lived, as well as worked in the tourism industry around the world. Ms Jönsson has worked and consulted in both private and public sector organizations in countries such as Brazil and Sweden. She speaks seven languages and as a polyglot she has added richly to international projects through translation, interpretation and cross cultural communication. Her major areas of research include sustainable tourism, tourism planning & development, disaster management and tourism motivation.
JAMAL KHAN
Jamal Khan holds a B.A and an MA(Dacca), and MPA and Ph.D. (Cincinnati). He has been with the UWI since 1974. A Professor in Public Administration, Dr. Khan has written extensively in international journals such as Administrative Science Review, Public Administration Review, Management Development, International Journal of Public Sector management, Project Management Quarterly and Bangladesh Journal of Public Administration. His publications include Development Administration: Field Research in Barbados (1976), Managing Development: Theory and Practice (1978), Public Management: The Eastern Caribbean Experience (1982), (1987), The Context of Film as an Art-Form (1982) and Doing Projects (with W. Soverall) (2000). He has provided consulting service to regional institutions in the area of policy making, programme management, and development planning. His teaching research interest are development management, public section management techniques, policy analysis and project management.
SONIA MAHON - (DEPUTY DEAN- FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES)
Sonia Mahon holds a B.Sc in National Sciences (UWI) and an M.Sc. in Management Information Systems (Boston University). She joined the Department in 1992 as a Temporary Assistant Lecturer and was on study leave during the 1994/1995 academic year. She returned to the Department in 1995 as a Lecturer in Computing. Mrs. Mahon has also been developing several computer training programmes and developing software systems solutions. Her research interests are information technology and business information systems. Mrs. Mahon is a Doctoral Student at UWI - Mona.
WADE MCKENZIE
Wade McKenzie is originally from Canada and joined the Department in January 2007. He received his Ph.D. in Marketing and International Business at the Haskayne School of Business in Calgary. Most recently he was a faculty member at the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico. Dr. McKenzie has worked and studied in Canada, the States, Latin America, Europe and Asia. His international teaching areas are in strategy, marketing and cross-cultural management. His research focuses on foreign market development strategy and e-business.
LAWRENCE NURSE
Lawrence Nurse holds a B.A in History and Economic (UWI) and an M.Sc in Labour Studies and Ph.D in Sociology, (University of Massachusetts). Before joining the University in 1977, Dr. Nurse worked for a major trade union in Barbados and for the Caribbean Community Secretariat in Guyana. He is a Senior Lecturer in management, with particular reference to the management of human resources, industrial relations and organisational development. Dr. Nurse is the author of Public Policy and Industrial Relations in the Commonwealth Caribbean (1980) and Trade Unionism and Industrial Relations in the Commonwealth Caribbean (1992). His research interests include Public Policy and Industrial Relations; Employee Relations Management, Organisational Justice, Workplace Politics, Industrial Conflict and Corporate Culture. Dr. Nurse has published several articles in regional and international journals, including Social and Economic Studies, Administration and Society, Nueva Sociedad and Labour Law Journal. His work also appears as chapters in books. He is a former chairman of the Board of Directors of Arawak Cement Company, and is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Barbados Port Authority.
NADINI PERSAUD
Nadini Persaud holds a B.Sc. in Accounting (First Class Honours) (UWI), an M.Sc. in Project Management and Evaluation (Distinction) (UWI), CGA (Gold Award), and a Ph.D. in Evaluation (Western Michigan University). She was a temporary Lecturer from 2002-2004, but resigned to persue doctoral studies when she received a Fulbright Scholarship. She returned to the Department in August 2007 as a Lecturer in Evaluation. Before commencing employment with UWI, she was employed as a Projects Officer with the Economic, Planning, Project Coordination and Social Policy Development Unit of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Development in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Her resaerch interests are project evaluation, checklist methodologes, cost analysis,and project management.
PAUL POUNDER
Paul Pounder holds a BBA in Entrepreneurial Studies (Honours) (Brock University), completed the masters level and has a Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Birmingham. Before joining the Department in 2005, Dr. Pounder was a Business Development Officer/Coordinator - Innovation Support Programme at the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation for six years. Dr. Pounder taught Business Entrepreneurship at the Barbados Community College in the B.Ed. Programme from 2004-2005. He has provided consulting services to Local, Regional and International organizations in the following areas of research: small and medium-sized enterprises, operations management and project management.
BETTY JANE PUNNETT
Betty Jane Punnett joined the Department in November 1999 as Professor in General Management and International Business. She holds the B.A in English (McGill), M.B.A in Personnel (Marist College) and the Ph.D in International Business/Organisational Behaviour (NYU). Prof. Punnett was until recently Prof. of International Business and Organisational Management at the Mona Institute of Business, and prior to that served for many years as Professor at the University of Windsor in Canada. She has held visiting appointments at a number of universities. She has published several articles in a number of international journals, several chapters in books, as well as four books. She was Director of International Programmes, Academy of Management and serves as a member of the Editorial Board of a number of international journals. Her research interests are culture and its Impact on international management and human resource management.
JOSEANN KNIGHT
Joseann Knight holds a B.Sc in Management (First Class Honours) (UWI), d an MBA (Florida) with concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. Prior to joining the Department, Ms. Small worked as a Management Consultant with David Shorey and Co. She is currently enrolled in a research Ph.D. programme at UWI. During the academic year 2004-2005, Mrs. Knight was attached to the University of Warwick under a Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship. Her research interests are in the areas of new product development in the Caribbean, international marketing and entrepreneurship.
SHERMA ROBERTS
Sherma Roberts holds a B.A. in History with Social Sciences (UWI), a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations (UWI), M.Sc. in Tourism Planning and Development (Disrinction) (Surrey and a Ph.D. in Tourism (Brunel). Dr. Roberts joined the Department in September 2005. Her research interests are varied and include tourism in developing countries, island tourism, community participation, sustainable tourism development, the development of sustainability indicators, small tourism business/entrepreneurship, tourism planning and development and tourism policy.
AYANA YOUNG MARSHALL
Ayana Young Marshall is an Attorney-at-Law. She holds a LL.B (Honours) (UWI), Certificate of Legal Education (Hugh Wooding Law School), M.Sc. in International Business (UWI) and has been admitted to practice law in Barbados and Guyana. She joined the Department as Part-Time Lecturer in 2004 and was appointed Lecturer in International Business in August 2006. Mrs. Young Marshall has significant international business, trade policy and private sector development experience. She has prepared briefs, opinions, speeches, policy papers, advised and represented private sector interests at international trade negotiations. Prior to joining UWI, she served as Trade Officer at the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Deputy Trade Director/International Trade Specialist with the USAID funded Caribbean Trade and Competitiveness Development programme and consulted on numerous projects in support of regional governments and private sectors in international trade and business related areas. Her research focuses on economic sectors with foreign exchange earning potential.
