About the Programme

After businesses make money, they need to know the best avenues to invest it. Launch a bankable career in finance with an MSc. Finance and Investments degree! This programme will give you a sound understanding of the complexities and dynamism of the local and international financial markets and build your expertise in the application of cutting-edge investment techniques and tools to deliver winning money management strategies to your clients or company.   

What Will I Study?

  • Techniques for performing sound financial analysis and modelling.
  • How to identify trends and opportunities for investment in international markets.
  • How to manage risk and investments across international markets.
  • Real time stock market and investment data using Bloomberg- an analytics and trading tool. Bloomberg is a gateway to practical, real-time investment experience. 
  • How to maximise on the opportunities associated with equity and fixed income securities.
  • How private markets work, how to value private market assets and execute private market investment strategies.

Facilities and Resources

Graduate Studies Lab - This new Graduate Studies Lab equips students with hands-on experience in using data analytic and research tools and technologies to improve the practical experience and the real-world feel of their programme curriculum. The Lab is equipped with several Bloomberg terminals. 

Textbook Package - Textbooks (printed or electronic) are provided for all registered students. This fee is included in the programme cost, and students are allowed to keep all of the course materials on completion of the course of study.

Research

Our Faculty conducts research in a wide cross-section of areas related to Accounting and Finance. These areas include ethics, taxation and accounting information systems.
  
Professor C. Justin Robinson has published extensively on banking, finance and investments in the emerging market context. His research included investigations on stock price behaviour, dividend policy and monetary integration in the Caribbean. Professor Robinson also serves on the Board of Directors for the Central Bank of Barbados.

The MSc. Finance and Investments programme aligns itself with the content of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute in an effort to better prepare students to succeed in this evolving field. More importantly, the MSc. Finance and Investments programme includes a significant portion of the CFA Program’s Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) in its curriculum.

Programme Fees (as at August 2023)  = BDS $ 30,000
University Registration Fees (as at August 2023) = BDS $ 540 per semester:
University fees comprise of Guild and Amenities Fees. They are not charged in the summer semester.
Please note that fees may be adjusted for academic year 2023-2024. 

For Degreed Applicants
 
A Bachelor’s Degree from a university or college acceptable to the University of the West Indies, with at least Lower Second Class Honours.
 
Students with 'Pass' degrees will be considered on the following conditions:
(a) they are currently working in the field, or have adequate work experience, related to the programme, and
(b) they are successful at an interview conducted by the Entrance Committee within the  Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management.

Two letters of recommendation.
 
For Non-Degreed Applicants
 
Many individuals working in Finance/Investments have expressed a desire to obtain advanced training. While these individuals have many years of practical experience, they tend to hold mainly certificates, diplomas or other professional designations related to their job. It is expected that the number of students entering the programme through this route will be restricted to a maximum of 25 percent of the cohort in any given year. The entry criteria for these students would therefore be: 
 
  1. Technical certificates, diplomas or professional designations that can be assessed by the University of the West Indies.
  2. At least five years’ experience in a related field at a Supervisory or higher level.
  3. A successful interview conducted by a selected panel determined by the Campus Committee on Graduate Studies and the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management.
  4. Two strong letters of recommendation.
