The UWI’s Revenue Revolution strategy approved and set to take effect

Ushered by the success of the regional university’s soaring reputation over the past five years, the 2022-2027 strategic direction for The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has been approved. Dubbed the ‘Revenue Revolution’, this second phase of The UWI Triple A Strategy was given the green light by the University Council during a special meeting of its members held on July 29 and is set to take effect from the start of the upcoming academic year.
UWI Global Giving 2022 to help raise US$1 million for Open Campus Scholarships

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has launched its annual Global Giving Campaign, seeking to engage alumni, partners, the diaspora, and friends to contribute to strengthening and sustaining the regional university. UWI Global Giving began officially on August 1 and is focused this year on helping to raise US$1 million for the University’s Open Campus Endowment Fund. Throughout August, persons interested in giving to this important campaign are invited to visit www.uwi.edu/giving; every gift counts.

The University of the West Indies Press (UWI Press) recently launched Caribbean Trade, Integration and Development – Selected Papers and Speeches of Alister McIntyre (Vols. 1 & 2). The works edited by Andrew S. Downes, Compton Bourne, M. Arnold McIntyre, and Rosalie O'Meally, reflect the vision of the late Sir Alister McIntyre, OCC, OM, CCH, who has been described variously as an economic consultant, economic advisor, scholar, policymaker and former Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI).

New UWI St. Augustine Campus Principal takes office

Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, new Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal for the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) officially assumed office on August 1, 2022. She succeeds Professor Brian Copeland who proceeded into retirement on July 31, 2022.

Professor Sir Hilary Beckles elected to new leadership role on Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities

Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has been elected by his peers across the international academic community to serve on the governing Council for the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). The announcement was made on July 29 in a statement from the ACU, naming the newest members of its governance body who will be responsible for overseeing the association’s activities and determining its future strategic direction. Vice-Chancellor Beckles’ appointment is for three years until August 2025.
Education Experts examine transforming Caribbean education at UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Forum

On Thursday, July 21, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) in collaboration with the Caribbean Centre for Educational Planning (CCEP) hosted a Vice-Chancellor’s Forum to discuss the Orlando Patterson Commission Report. The Report which presents a comprehensive review and assessment of Jamaica’s education system, its structure, operation, and processes was examined by regional education experts during two-hour hybrid event which aired live on UWItv.
