Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Economics and Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Finance

Cave Hill, Barbados

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill four (4) vacant posts in the Department of Economics, The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados.

 

  1. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Economics – (3)

The successful candidates will be expected to teach at least 12 hours per week (lectures and tutorials), contribute to the department’s research strategies, supervise student research, engage in university service, and contribute to the department’s public service, scholarly, and professional activities. The position requires the ability to teach in at least two of the following areas at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistical Methods, Financial Economics, Econometrics, and Mathematics.

The successful candidate must hold (or must be pursuing) a PhD in Economics or a closely related quantitative discipline and demonstrate a strong record of high-quality research and effective teaching appropriate to the level of appointment. Candidates without a PhD may also be considered if they have substantial research output and relevant professional experience as economists.

Successful applicants will be expected to assume duties by August 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

 

2. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Finance – (1)

The successful candidates will be expected to teach at least 12 hours per week (lectures and tutorials). Preference will be given to applicants who are able to teach in the following areas at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Financial Modelling (Python and Excel); Investments; Portfolio Management; Derivatives; Valuation; Risk Analysis and Management; Bank Financial Management; Investment Banking; Money and Banking; Corporate Finance; Ethics in Banking and Finance

The candidate will also be required to contribute to the department’s research strategies, supervise student research, engage in university service, and contribute to the department’s public service, scholarly, and professional activities.;

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Finance or Banking and a track record of high-quality research and teaching commensurate with the level of appointment.  Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are a plus, but equivalent experience will also be considered.
