On May 28th, 2026, the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences hosted its annual summer internship orientation session, welcoming its first cohort of Food Science minors alongside students from Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, and Biochemistry. Led by departmental supervisors, the session outlined workplace expectations, emphasising professional conduct, ethics, effective communication, and personal responsibility. For the first time, program alumni participated by sharing practical workplace insights with the incoming students. Additionally, Dr. Don-Marie Holder from the OSSD delivered a presentation on career readiness, skill reflection, and crafting a personal pitch. Ultimately, this placement program bridges academia and the workplace, allowing students to gain real-world skills across various industries while providing host organisations with motivated UWI talent.
