Research Areas

Recent regional consultancy includes curriculum and institutional audit work in Barbados and development of primary- and CAPE-level materials for the UNEP Caribbean Zero Waste Project. Dr Veira also supports OER, STEAM, ICT integration, teacher development, sustainability education, and science outreach.

Effective Pedagogy for Distributed Teaching and Learning

Co-designed and implemented a regional certification course for teachers on effective pedagogy for distributed teaching and learning, with attention to resilient online and blended education during disruption. Supported through the OECS/USAID Early Learners Programme; consultancy value US$310,420.

Teacher Migration and Retention in the Caribbean

Contributing researcher and co-author of the UNESCO technical report Teacher Migration and Retention in the Caribbean: Processes and Challenges, examining regional factors that influence teacher movement, retention, and education systems.

Advancing ICTs for Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices in Saint Lucia

Project Manager for an initiative that introduced ICT-supported practices, stakeholder training and regional knowledge sharing. Funded by the Japan-CARICOM Friendship and Cooperation Fund, 2018-2019.

Additional Info

Dr Veira’s research brings together science education, teacher education and technology-enhanced learning in Caribbean contexts. Her work examines online and blended pedagogy, reflective practice, curriculum and assessment, inclusive teaching, digital technologies and teacher professional development. A second strand draws on her biology and agricultural research background, with interests in climate-smart agriculture, food sovereignty, sustainable farming, roots and tubers, and ICT-supported farmer learning. Her outputs include peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, conference papers, technical reports and regional consultancy, including work on decolonising higher education curricula, distributed teaching and learning, and sustainable agricultural practices.
