The Praxis – A Discussion with Olivia Hall and Jason Fitzroy Jeffers

The Department of Creative and Performing Arts invites you to join us for a discussion with Olivia Hall and Jason Fitzroy Jeffers.

Intention to Impact: How can your creative practice connect, change, and inspire others, through the scope of choreography?
Olivia Hall is a multi award-winning Barbadian choreographer, who has performed regionally and internationally while also showcasing her work. She is the Managing and Artistic Director of her dance company- O. A. N. Dance Company (Of Another Nature), and locally works in several performing arts spaces where she shares her knowledge and experiences to academic institutions such as the Barbados Community College (Dance Program), and after- school programs. Her accolades are nothing but excellence, which include the Prime Minister’s award of Excellence for Best Original Choreography, the Prime Minister’s Scholarship, the Madame Ifill Award, the UNICEF Award, the Massy Foundation Creator’s Award, and the Award for Culture & Arts for her dedication to youth work in the community.
 
The Importance of Artistic Research in both Fiction and Non-Fiction Filmmaking 
Jason Fitzroy Jeffers is a filmmaker from Barbados who has written and produced award-winning shorts such as "Papa Machete" that have screened at film festivals such as Sundance Film Festival, BlackStar, and TIFF, as well as "T", winner of the 2020 Golden Bear for Best Short Film at Berlinale. Jeffers is co-founder, former festival director, and current board chair of Third Horizon Film Festival, which centers cinema from the Caribbean, its diaspora, and other underrepresented spaces in the Global South. Prior to his work in film, Jeffers was a reporter with The Miami Herald and various media outlets across South Florida. He is a 2023 USA Fellow, a 2024 Creative Capital Awardee, a 2024 Sundance Screenwriters Lab fellow, and was recently named one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Voices in Independent Film" for 2024.
