On 2 August 2018, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus (CHC) held a
Symposium “Building Resilience to Biosecurity Threats in the Caribbean”. Attended by 66 participants, who included the Honourable Dale Marshall, QC, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs of Barbados, and Senator Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the expected outcome of the Symposium was the definition and initiation of strategies to build resilience to biosecurity challenges in the Caribbean. Other participants represented various disciplines involved in the desired integrated, multisectoral response to these challenges, including health, laboratory, security, and emergency and disaster management.
Principles of Biosecurity
Thematic Area 1 included a Keynote Address by Professor Akin Abayomi and a Panel Discussion with two Discussants: Mr. Ronald Jackson and Professor Winston Moore. These theme was chaired by Professor Marvin Reid.
