The Department
of Biological and Chemical Sciences came into existence on August 01, 1996, as a result of fusion of the former Departments of Biology and Chemistry. The Department is situated at the top of a coral escarpment overlooking the sea and is housed in the Chemistry and Biology buildings. Both these buildings were expanded in 1996.

On May 28th, 2026, the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences hosted its annual summer internship orientation session, welcoming its first cohort of Food Science minors alongside students from Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, and Biochemistry.
