About the Facility
Named after the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, the Sports Complex sits at the Paradise Park (formerly Lazaretto) overlooking the picturesque Batts Rock Beach. It boasts of an IAAF Level 2 Track, FIFA Class 2 Artificial Field and FIFA Class 3 Lighting, while 2 main stands house the Academy and its labs, among other amenities.
Ryan Brathwaite Track
To honour his Gold medal in the 110mh at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, the IAAF Level 2 Track was named after Barbadian sprint hurdler Ryan Brathwaite. The REGUPOL surface accommodates 8 lanes and provisions are made for other Track & Field disciplines within the complex.

Kirani James Stand
Located on the western side of the complex, this stand has a capacity of 450 seats available for spectators and is home to the UWI Cave Hill’s Academy of Sport. Given the mandate to promote sports on a holistic basis, there are also multiple classrooms, the Sagicor Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology Laboratory, and Strength and Conditioning Lab which are used to deliver the various courses which fall under the academic programmes of the Faculty of Sport.
Obadele Thompson Stand
The Obadele Thompson stand is situated parallel to the Kirani James Stand and boasts a 550-person spectator seating capacity. Geared more towards the sporting side of the UWI, it is equipped with state-of-the-art changing rooms and facilities, which caters to the needs of both home and away teams. Given its international capabilities, the stand is also outfitted with rooms to conduct Drug Testing and Physical Therapy, as well as rooms to facilitate storage.
Classrooms
Students can look forward to attending classes of the academic programmes in one of the four classrooms available in the Kirani James stand. Each classroom contains state-of-the-art Smart Boards and equipment to facilitate distance learning.
Sports Science Labs
The Sagicor Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology Laboratory and the Sagicor Strength and Conditioning Laboratory both boast an extensive range of state-of-the-art equipment, that is fit for purpose; namely student teaching and learning, as well as athletic testing and monitoring.
