Facilities & Rentals

Some of the Caribbean's best sporting facilities are located at the Academy of Sport, where athletes hone their skills and subsequently move on to compete in regional and international events.

3Ws Oval

The 3Ws Oval is named in memory of three great Barbadian and West Indian cricketers - Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Everton Weekes. Being one of the latest additions to Barbados' cricket grounds, local and regional matches along with warm up matches for touring teams are hosted here. Four warm up matches in the 2007 World Cup were also held here, since the sporting facility was developed to international standards.

Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Coaching Centre

Named after the great Sir Garfield Sobers, the Coaching Centre (formerly the Indoor Cricket School)  is the perfect complement to the 3Ws Oval. The Centre rises to approximately 35 feet, is complete with a storage room and can accommodate up to four different types of sessions in the four indoor bowling lanes provided. Batsmen can also benefit from the BOLA Mechanical Bowling Machines.  If cricketers desire a more realistic feel for their session, the facility also comprises two outdoor nets named after former West Indian fast bowler Malcolm Marshall.

Outdoor Courts

Volleyballers, Netballers, Basketballers and Tennis players can enjoy the Caribbean breeze while going through their paces on the Outdoor Courts of the Academy of Sport. The two courts are marked to international standards and can facilitate a wide range of training programmes.

Students' Gym

Students at Cave Hill can enjoy the services of the Students' Gym throughout their tenure at the Campus, at no cost. It is located at the Paradise Park (formerly Lazaretto), near the Usain Bolt Sports Complex and is furnished with a wide variety of workout equipment to meet the fitness needs of its users. Two fitness professionals, Ms. Maureen Howard and Mr. Ramon Dodson, are on staff to lend their expertise and the gym is always manned by friendly supervisors when it is open.

Usain Bolt Sports Complex

Named after the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, the Sports Complex sits at the Paradise Park (formerly Lazaretto) overlooking the picturesque Batts Rock Beach. It boasts of an IAAF/World Athletics Level 2 Track, FIFA Class 2 Artificial Field and FIFA Class 3 Lighting, while 2 main stands house the Academy and its labs, among other amenities.

Usain Bolt Sports Complex Annex

Well-manicured and adequately sized, the Annex at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex (UBSC) is ideal for athletes seeking to improve their fitness but on a softer, natural surface. The Annex, situated next to the UBSC Cricket Nets and UWI Student Gym, offers multiple options to its users and can serve as a warm up area for Track and Field, an open area to engage in cardiovascular exercises for gym-goers or even a location for recreational activity such as football for a small group of friends.
