{"id":214,"date":"2010-08-18T12:45:03","date_gmt":"2010-08-18T11:45:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/smlibrary\/computer-use-policy\/"},"modified":"2025-07-24T12:04:33","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T16:04:33","slug":"computer-use-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/smlibrary\/about-us\/policies\/computer-use-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer Use Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<section>\n<div class=\"container-fluid p-0\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2>Computer Use Policy<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" style=\"color: rgb(52, 103, 52);\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2><strong>UWILink \u2013 Online Public Access Catalogue<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<p>A number of library computers are available for accessing <strong>UWILink<\/strong>.&nbsp; These are located on the first and second floors of the library and are to be used <strong>ONLY<\/strong> to search the library\u2019s online catalogue and other e-resources.&nbsp;Students are <strong>NOT<\/strong> to use these machines for any reason other than that specified above. This includes the preparation of assignments; browsing the Internet; and accessing any social networking sites.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students are further advised that altering of the homepage; downloading of data of any kind and the placing of any storage device on any of the library computers (for e.g. memory stick, CD disk)&nbsp;constitutes a breach of the correct use of these machines, and anyone found engaging in such activities may be asked to leave the library.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" style=\"color: rgb(52, 103, 52);\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2><strong>Computer Lab<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tA Computer Lab is provided for students\u2019 use on the third floor of the Main Library.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students are required to sign the booking sheet from the lab attendant under the number of the machine they are going to use. The machine is allocated to the student for one hour in the first instance. However, the student may continue this use after this hour has passed if there are no other students waiting to use the machine. The student must sign the booking sheet again to continue to use the machine for the additional hour.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe machines are to be used by students to facilitate research, work on projects etc. The lab attendants will monitor the students\u2019 use of this equipment to ensure that it is not used in an inappropriate manner. They will also assist in resolving any simple problems students might encounter with the computers or the printing of documents.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStudents must only use the lab machines for the purpose assigned and in the manner outlined above.&nbsp;They are also required to log off the machine after use.
