About the Programme
Tourism is an ever-expanding industry which is becoming more diverse. Knowing how to manage tourism and hospitality at an international level is a key asset. Having competence in Portuguese will make graduates of this programme even more marketable as outbound tourism from Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries grows.

- How to work with stakeholders to develop effective tourism policy.
- How to market the tourism sector.
- How to evaluate international tourism practices within their cultural, political and economic contexts.
- How to develop the tourism industry while protecting the environment, people and culture.
- How to market products and services across differing geographical markets.
- How to communicate effectively in Portuguese.
- The fundamentals of Brazilian culture.
Research
Our Faculty conducts research in a wide cross-section of areas related to Tourism and Hospitality, including sustainable tourism development and foreign direct investment in tourism.
The Co-ordinator of the programme, Dr. Sherma Roberts is the primary author of the text ‘Contemporary Caribbean Tourism Concepts and Cases’ which is the signal foundation text for the Caribbean Secondary Examinations Council (CSEC) qualification in Tourism Studies.
Tourism Lecturer Dr. Cristina Jönsson has served as a regional tourism manager in Sweden, and prepared and executed a tourism master plan on behalf of a municipal government in Europe.
