About the Programme

The Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a product of the innovation economy through which countries have sought to manage the effects of market disasters and economic downturns. The ethos of this programme is to make a charge on the creative capabilities of its participants, patent or latent, while incorporating the theoretical precepts of academic business study at master’s level aimed at introducing new businesses, products or services, revamped businesses, products or services and different ways of creating and developing business.

The Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation is designed to build capacity through professional development as well as to create and execute programmes and projects which respond to immediate needs for strengthening economic development in Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Graduates of this programme will be equipped to develop business ideas, enter business ventures as individuals or as part of an organisation.

 

What Will I Study?

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of entrepreneurial theory and practice, including the identification and evaluation of opportunities, the development of business models, and the creation of new ventures.
  •  Equip persons with the skills and knowledge necessary to assess the feasibility of business ideas and to develop a comprehensive business plan.
  •  Provide professionals with an understanding of the legal, financial, and regulatory aspects of entrepreneurship, including issues related to intellectual property, and financing.
  •  Foster an appreciation of the importance of innovation and the role it plays in driving economic growth and social progress.
  •  Develop the skills necessary to manage and grow a successful business, including marketing, operations, and human resource management.
  • Cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset characterised by creativity, resilience, and a willingness to take risks.
  •  Encourage professionals to engage with entrepreneurial communities, such as startup accelerators, incubators, and venture capital firms.

Programme Fees (as at August 2023)  = BDS $ 34,000.
Please note that fees may be adjusted for academic year 2023-2024. 

  • Graduates of an approved university with at least a Second-Class Honors degree, or who in the opinion of UWI, have an equivalent professional qualification;
  •  Possess between three to five years relevant management experience;
  •  Senior Managers or are earmarked for senior management or are seeking to switch careers paths;
  •  Capable of committing to a rigorous and flexible course of study for personal development as a manager;
  •  Current permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, heads of departments/organization/institution and/or are deputy managers, experienced and inexperienced entrepreneurs.

 

Applicants considered for acceptance may be interviewed. Persons who do not meet academic or work experience requirements may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
