About the Programme

The M.Sc. Industrial and Employment Relations programme is geared towards shaping the workplace of the future. This programme will enable students to advance their knowledge of critical areas in industrial relations including labour relations management, collective bargaining and dispute resolution, labour market and social policy and employment legislation. Furthermore, the M.Sc. Industrial and Employment Relations programme is multifarious as it offers in-depth study of labour history, the nature of labour relations in the Caribbean and globally, legislation governing labour and employment relations, and a focus on human resources practice, human resources analytics, and the promotion of employee wellbeing and efficient productivity levels.

This programme will prepare students for the enhancement of their careers in human resource management, industrial and labour relations, labour economics or as trade union or labour researchers.

What Will I Study?

  • Industrial and employment relations systems.
  • Legal regulations encompassing industrial relations and the role that the law serves in shaping employment and industrial relations.
  • How  to apply effective industrial and employment relations strategies.
  • The tools and methodologies for effective labour management relations.
  • How to advise government, employers’ and workers’ representatives on industrial and employment relations issues.

Research

Our Faculty’s research in Human Resources Management has had local, regional and global impact.
  • Professor Dwayne Devonish has expertise in the area of strategic planning and employee wellness and is presently working alongside trade union leaders to establish a National Workplace Wellness Policy.
  • Dr. Dion Greenidge has expertise in psychometric assessment. He developed the Hierarchical Personality Assessment Questionnaire (HIPAQ) which has been translated into Mandarin and has placed him in demand internationally.
