Cyber Security Professional Certification: From Zero to Hero

Overview

With a high demand for cyber security professionals due to the heightened attacks and vulnerabilities facing organisations today, all organisations need competent cyber security minded personnel who are able to review the security posture of the organisation to build up and test the cyber security “guard rails” or defences. Therefore, this course is designed to answer the demand for persons with no work experience in this area to become a hero to start mastering the security concepts of enforcing confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA) Triad that forms the basis for development of a cyber security model. This course establishes the core knowledge required of any cybersecurity role and provides a springboard from Zero experience to “Hero” status as a professional ready for intermediate-level cybersecurity jobs. The course encompasses the CompTIA Security+ curriculum ensuring candidates have practical security problem-solving skills.

Learning Objectives

The goals of the programme are to:

  • Equip delegates with the pre-requisite technical knowledge to get started in cyber security.
  •  Foster delegates’ understanding of cyber security basics, networking basics and weaknesses, the web and common attacks.
  •  Foster delegates’ use of the Linux operating system.
  •  Provide real world lab access to security tools, network operating systems and ethical hacking or offensive security scenarios to test systems for vulnerabilities.
  •  Provide delegates with the curriculum knowledge to pass the ISC2 Certification and CompTIA SY0-701 Security+ exams.

On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and distinguish between attacks, threats and vulnerabilities that lead to indicators of compromises to cyber security CIA triad.
  •  Effectively implement identity and access management to administer identity, access management, PKI, basic cryptography, wireless, and end-to-end security.
  •  Implement secure network architecture concepts and systems design.
  •  Install network components.
  •  Configure and deploy network components while assessing and troubleshooting issues to support organisational security.
  •  Conduct organisational security assessment and incident response procedures including basic threat detection, risk mitigation techniques, security controls, and basic digital forensics.
  •  Summarise and implement risk management best practices and the business impact.

Entry Requirements

  •  Secondary School Leaver’s Certificate with computing experience is an asset to this course but not a necessity
  •  Computer skills including programming, helpdesk, system administration or networking skills is an asset to this course

  • For those registrants who wish to complete the CompTIA Security + Exam, participants must register separately for the ISC2 Certification and CompTIA Security + Exams
  • It is recommended that participants register for the exam at least three weeks before the course concludes

CANCELLATIONS

  • The Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management (SCHSBM) reserves the right to make changes to any printed or online information on short courses, instructors, or course information; or cancel any short course due to under-subscription or circumstances beyond its control.
  • Delegates will be notified at least seven (7) days before the start of any course that must be cancelled.
  • Fees for short courses cancelled by the SCHSBM will be refunded in full.
  • The SCHSBM will not be liable for any loss, damages or other expenses that result from course cancellations.

REFUNDS

Due to the costs incurred for program preparation and administration any cancellations received 30 days or less from the program start date are subject to fees as described below. For programs with a virtual component, the start date will be considered the first day of live learning.
