Testimonial:

The BSc. Hospitality and Tourism programme offers students an opportunity to pursue two years study at BCC within a tourism/ hospitality stream before progressing to UWI to do another two years which ultimately culminated in the award of the Bachelor’s degree. I felt that this gave a good opportunity to have a mixture of practical and academic grounding that would give me a good start professionally. Financially it was also not as prohibitive as other international options, but I ultimately came to realise that its financial attractiveness notwithstanding, the high quality of instruction was definitely not jeopardised.

Having been fortunate enough to do graduate study as an international student at a global institution I know that UWI's Times of London rating is no small feat as I’ve seen the impact such metrics have on a university’s attractiveness, particularly to international students. This has also given me the opportunity to juxtapose the two experiences. Though Cave Hill certainly has some areas for improvement in its facilities, resources and aspects surrounding student life, I find it to be highly competitive in the quality of tutelage.

Lecturers within the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management showcased exceptional drive. Each lecturer I had the opportunity to interact with offered a genuine interest in extracting the best from their students. Some were naturally more rigid and stern than others, but they were all very adept and knowledgeable in their respective fields.

On the other hand, the greatest benefit of the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management has been the extent to which it prepared me for future study.  One of the oft mentioned concerns about academia is that there is a lack of practical relevance and application. When I reflect on my time at Cave Hill, I cannot say that this holds true. By and large, the various courses were structured so that they properly blended the academics with our practical realities and were thought provoking. Consequently, I can distinctly recall the joys of being recognised by the department as the most outstanding student in the programme within my contingent.

Having been fixated on putting the degree to some practical use long before I had earned it, its fair to say my time at Cave Hill continues to serve me well. Ultimately, I have no hesitation in recommending studies within the department and by extension at Cave Hill.
