This course is designed to prepare individuals to pass the Project Management Professional (PMP®) and/or the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP®) credential examinations in fulfillment of the latest examination content outline releases and examination handbooks by the Project Management Institute (PMI). With twelve 3-hour sessions delivered over six weeks, this 36-hour course enables candidates to satisfy the minimum education requirements to apply to the PMP and/or PMI-ACP certification examinations. Participants will receive twenty-one (21) contact hours of training in agile practices for the PMI-ACP while thirty-five (35) hours of formal project management education will be dedicated towards participants’ preparation for sitting the PMP examination.

 

Learning Objectives

On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the process of project control, monitoring and closing in the project life cycle.
  • Discuss ways to effectively communicate with project stakeholders.
  • Devise a project strategy to ensure alignment with the overall strategy of an organisation.
  • Construct a project schedule and plan using various project management techniques.
  • Discuss different methods for cost estimation of projects and project budgeting.
  • Evaluate the use of project metrics and process documentation in the effective management of projects.
  • Identify risks that affect project quality, scope, cost, and scheduling.
  • Create effective risk management strategies to mitigate project risk

Goals

The goals of the course are to:

  • Facilitate participants’ development of the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage complex projects.
  • Provide an experiential environment where participants can gain a practical understanding of the technical knowledge areas of project management.
  • Prepare participants to write the PMP and PMI-ACP examinations.

Pre-requisites for the certification examination:

  • The certification examination offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) is external to UWI and must be applied for and paid for separately from the examination prep course.
  • The minimum requirements to take the PMP Certification are:

– An undergraduate degree
– 36 months leading projects
– 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

— OR —

– A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
– 60 months leading projects
– 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

  • For the PMP examination, a minimum of 3 years practical experience in project management in leading and/or directing projects is required. Exam Fee: US$555.00 (regular) or US$405.00 for PMI members.
  • For the PMI-ACP examination, a minimum of one (1) year practical experience in project management of which 8 months of agile project experience, is required. Examination Fee: US$495.00 (regular) or US$435.00 (for PMI members)
  • All PMI exams are administered online 24/7 through Pearson VUE.

CANCELLATIONS

  • Delegates will be notified at least seven (7) days before the start of any course that must be cancelled.
  • Fees for short courses cancelled by the SCHSBM will be refunded in full.

Due to the costs incurred for program preparation and administration any cancellations received 30 days or less from the program start date are subject to fees as described below. For programs with a virtual component, the start date will be considered the first day of live learning.
