Simple ways to build trust and show respect include:&nbsp;\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keeping information confidential unless the mentor and mentee agree to do otherwise<\/li>\n<li>Always being well-mannered<\/li>\n<li>Completing tasks<\/li>\n<li>Establishing trust and respect can increase mentor\u2019s confidence to create professional and developmental contacts for mentees <\/li>\n<li>Having a regard for each other\u2019s time and commitment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Set Expectations&nbsp;<\/strong>It is important to discuss expectations for the mentorship programme. Four simple ways to manage expectations are:\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li>Establish a mutual agreement<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li>Identify clear roles and responsibilities n the mentee-mentor relationship<\/li>\n<li>Communicate and agree on these expectations<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate periodically as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Set Goals<\/span>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Goals provide clarity on what needs to be achieved from the mentorship&nbsp;<\/span>programme. Goals must be:&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n<ul>\n<li>SMART<\/li>\n<li>Clear<\/li>\n<li>Focused<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Be Committed&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBe mindful that the mentorship&nbsp;programme&nbsp;is a commitment. Commitment can be observed in the following ways:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Regular communication<\/li>\n<li>Offering suggestions<\/li>\n<li>Offering feedback<\/li>\n<li>Meeting agreed goals<\/li>\n<li>Being punctual<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Be Open Minded&nbsp;<\/strong><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<br \/>Learning from each other can foster growth. Open-mindedness can be achieved through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Offering respectful and encouraging advice<\/li>\n<li>Offering candid feedback<\/li>\n<li>Listening attentively to and working on feedback given<\/li>\n<li>Normalizing offering feedback<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Have a Positive Attitude<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stay positive throughout the entire experience. This is important.
