{"id":125,"date":"2025-08-05T12:01:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T16:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/ossd\/give-back-programme\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T14:54:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T18:54:48","slug":"give-back-programme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/ossd\/community-engagement\/give-back-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Give Back Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"container-fluid page-wrapper site-font\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<section id=\"main-content\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h1 class=\"page-header\">Give Back Programme<\/h1>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"page_text\">\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2>About<\/h2>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tIn 2018, the Barbados Government reintroduced the payment of tuition fees for Barbadian students.&nbsp; In return, it mandated that all Barbadian students \u2018give back\u2019 in the form of volunteer hours at various approved participating entities across the island.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tStudents have the opportunity to OPT OUT of this programme by contacting the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training and arranging for the payment of their fees.&nbsp; This should be done before the start of the semester.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t&nbsp;\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<hr>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2>Requirements<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\tStudents are required to complete volunteer hours for <strong><u>each<\/u><\/strong> academic year as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full-time &#8211; 150 hours<\/li>\n<li>Part-time &#8211; 75 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tThe academic year begins on the <strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> August<\/strong> and finishes on the <strong>31<sup>st<\/sup> July<\/strong> of the following year.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<strong>For more information, visit<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/givebackbarbados.com\/\">Give Back Barbados<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<hr>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2>Enrollment in the Programme<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\"> To participate in this programme students must follow the steps below.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<strong>1. Create an account on the Ministry\u2019s App.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.bb\/giveback\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.gov.bb\/giveback<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Click on Create an account<\/li>\n<li>Complete the sign up page<\/li>\n<li>Accept terms of service and Privacy Policy&nbsp;to OPT IN<\/li>\n<li>Click submit<\/li>\n<li>CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR ACTIVATION (<em>your account is only created after activation<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<strong>2. Check for volunteer opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/givebackbarbados.com\/\">https:\/\/givebackbarbados.com\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Peruse the Give Back website for entities offering opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Choose the entity\/entities you want to participate with<\/li>\n<li>Contact the Entity to arrange your volunteering schedule<\/li>\n<li>Create a file and keep a record of all entities contacted and responses received<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"lc-block\" editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<strong>3. Log your completed volunteer hours<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.bb\/giveback\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.gov.bb\/giveback<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Log In<\/li>\n<li>Enter the date and the number of volunteered hours (<em>please note minutes must be entered for the time to be recorded correctly; you can enter <\/em><strong><em>00<\/em><\/strong><em> in the minutes\u2019 section<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>From the drop-down menu, select the entity you volunteered with (<em>note although you are a University of the West Indies student you are only to select this as an entity if you volunteered with or through us<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<hr>\n<p>\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<strong>Scholarship winners<\/strong> and <strong>Exhibition winners <\/strong>are also exempted.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n<h2>Volunteer Opportunities at the UWI Cave Hill Campus<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lc-block\">\n<div editable=\"rich\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Cave Hill Campus is an approved entity with the Give Back Programme. The Office of Student Services will publish available opportunities on our various social media platforms from time to time.&nbsp; You are advised to check your Cave Hill email and the Campus App regularly.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tAt the end of the volunteer period, you will be required to have the respective department verify the hours you served with them by completing a Service Hours Verification form.&nbsp; This form can be located here <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavehill.uwi.edu\/studentservices\/community-outreach\/volunteer-opportunities.aspx\">Service Hours Volunteer Form<\/a>.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tVolunteer hours can also be gained by <strong><u>APPROVED<\/u><\/strong> participation in our Peer Mentorship program;
