“Becoming competent in using the Cave Hill Campus’s technologies is a challenge new students face at the start of each academic year. While written guides, how-to videos and live introductory sessions help, it was my observation that when the new students actually started to engage the technology, it was clear that more needed to be done. New students still had many questions and gaps in their understanding of these technologies.
For the 2021-2022 academic year, I asked, “What if students could be introduced to the campus’s technology progressively and in a personalised manner, would that add further value for our new students?” The answer to this question lead to the birth of the Cave Hill Campus’s Registration Buddy programme.”
The Registration Buddy programme for new students at The UWI Cave Hill Campus is the brainchild of Sherry Maynard, Manager of the Campus’ Enterprise Systems Support Unit (ESSU). The programme was introduced last academic year and will be offered again this year for students entering in August. The programme was featured in the March 2022 issue of the Campus’ magazine CHILL NEWS. Follow the link and read about the launch of the programme, its impact on the new students, and the “joy of giving back” felt by the continuing students who served as the “registration buddies” CHILL News March 2022 (flippingbook.com).
