SALISES Lunch Time Talk | Race, Identity, and Politics.
13 Feb 2026
Venue: Eudine Barriteau Complex, Cave Hill Campus
SALISES invites you to join Visiting Fellow Dr. Edana Beauvais of Simon Fraser University (SFU) Canada for a lunchtime talk on Race, Identity, and Politics.
Dr. Beauvais will present her research on social identities and racial attitudes in former British settler-colonies with majority White-European populations, including Canada, the United States, and Australia. Dr. Beauvais will discuss findings related to hostile outgroup attitudes, benevolent outgroup attitudes, and feelings of in-group identity among members of the majority White population. She will theorize the potential implications of her work for former British settler-colonies such as Barbados, where people of White-European descent are a minority and where members of the majority population are descended from Black-African ancestors, creating potentially distinct dynamics.
