The Department of Cultural Studies in partnership with the Embassy of Cuba have the pleasure of inviting you to an upcoming art exhibition, featuring the artistic legacy ofinternationally renowned Cuban artist, Leandro Soto.
Leandro Soto worked closely with the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and across many cultural and artistic spaces and institutions during his seven-year tenure in Barbados. He left an indelible mark and now, a year after his untimely passing, the Barbadian public has an opportunity to view a selection of his works that are part of private collections on the island.
The exhibition entitled, "Creation in the Moment Without Past: The Legacy of a Remarkable Man" is curated by Dr. Therese Hadchity and will open on Tuesday, September 5 th in the Art Gallery of the EBCCI at 7PM. The opening will feature performances, tributes and an address by the new Cuban Ambassador, Yanet Stable Càrdenas.
This event would not have been possible without the gracious support of those who have loaned pieces for the exhibition, the artists who will perform and the planning committee including his widow and past UWI Senior Lecturer in Spanish, Grisel Pujalá-Soto along with Mario Porchetta, Keisha Hyde Porchetta, Yanique Hume, Russell Watson, Deandra Daniel and Peter Lewis.
We look forward to ushering in the start of the new semester with this faculty and broader community event that celebrates the arts in a multidisciplinary way.
The artist's work can be seen here.
