The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados has called for a debt repayment system for Caribbean countries similar to what was granted to Britain after World War II that allowed that country to have the fiscal space to return to a path of development.

Last Friday, members of the business, political and academic communities joined his family in a ceremony at The UWI Cave Hill Campus to celebrate his legacy as a committed regionalist, and brilliant economist among other accolades, with the renaming of the CARICOM building in his honour.

Wednesday, May 12, 2021.— The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce Professor Clive Landis as the next Principal of its Cave Hill Campus in Barbados. Professor Landis’ appointment was confirmed at The UWI’s annual business meeting of its University Council on April 30. The appointment was approved by the University Council, following a recommendation from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce that two-time Grammy award winning recording artist Shaggy will perform at the Virtual Toronto Benefit Awards 2021, on Saturday, May 22. Shaggy – Orville Richard Burrell – from Kingston, Jamaica has sold over 30 million albums to date.

The eight-member review committee comprises leaders in Caribbean development and government representatives. Resource participants from The UWI include Vice-Chancellor Beckles, Pro Vice-Chancellor Planning, University Registrar and University Bursar. Following its review, the Special Committee will submit a report containing recommendations to the UGC for approval and implementation.

Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, who is currently in the final year of his six-year contract, has been reappointed by the institution’s highest governing body, the University Council, for a second six-year term. The Council which met virtually on Friday, April 30, for its annual business meeting, approved the renewal of Vice-Chancellor Beckles’ term based on an appraisal of his performance

A group of researchers from The University of the West Indies (UWI) has put forward solutions to specific problems in the banking sector that could improve customer experience and result in cost savings to financial institutions. The grant project was funded by CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, with the research component undertaken by the St. Augustine Campus.

The Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management (SCHSBM) is positioning the Caribbean’s small business sector to lead the region’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with the launch of the Caribbean Micro Small Medium Enterprise Centre. It will serve as the umbrella body for a number of small business entities.

The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus has been recognised for its successful digital transformation initiatives, which allowed it to pivot quickly to support students during the pandemic. Ellucian, the leading higher education technology solutions provider, announced today that the university has won a 2021 Ellucian Impact Award, and will receive a US $25,000 grant.
