Medical students at Cave Hill Campus have acquired access to life-changing training equipment that allows them to bridge the gap between theory and practice and gain invaluable experience.
 

A University of the West Indies Cave Hill alumna is this year’s recipient of the 2022 Global Achievement Award from The John Hopkins University Alumni Association in honour of her excellent work in the international arena. Dr. Nadine Rogers received a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Policy & Management from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2002; however her journey began at Cave Hill in the Faculty of Arts & General Studies, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature (Upper Second Class Honours) in 1988.

Noted academic, prolific researcher and renowned polymath Professor Emeritus Sir Henry Fraser has shared aspects of his storied life in one of his latest publications, an autobiography entitled A Life in Medicine & The Arts.
 

Dr Carla Barnett, CARICOM Secretary-General and distinguished alumna of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) was the featured speaker at the recently held Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Economic and Social Studies (SALISES) Distinguished Lecture themed Sustained Economic Recovery Post Pandemic – The Lewis Model. The lecture, held on April 26, broadcast live via UWItv, was a part of The UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Forum series. It facilitated dialogue and offered answers to critical questions of Caribbean economic recovery as the region navigates the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Among the many deliberations which took place during the April 29 meeting of The UWI’s University Council were the appointments and reappointments of executives and senior managers of the regional university.  Members of the highest governing and decision-making authority gathered for its annual review of the academy’s business affairs, operations and financial management, and as is customary, HR appointments.

Students of The UWI-China Institute of Information Technology (UWI-CIIT) BSc. Software Engineering Program are receiving high praise for creating a new database to aid the Barbados Overseas Mission to collect information.  Former Ambassador of Barbados to Beijing, H.E. Francois Jackman lauded the work of the students in creating the online registration system of travelling nationals and Barbadians living abroad.
 

From September 2022, the University of the West Indies (UWI) will welcome the first cohort for the postgraduate diploma and certificate programme in Health Policy and Health Systems, created through a strategic collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The virtual engagement held on March 30 was part of Open Society’s Global Teach-In series. Championing a grassroots effort, the initiative designated the date for universities and organisations worldwide to lead events focused on ambitious but feasible, region-specific solutions to help Solve Climate by 2030.
