Three academics from The University of the West Indies (The UWI) have been selected as part of the first cohort of the Rising Scholars: Breast Cancer Programme, an international breast cancer research initiative for Early Career Researchers (ECRs). The UWI’s Dr. Simone Badal, Dr. Heather Harewood, and Dr. Natalie Greaves are among the 25 researchers chosen from around the world, with the programme focusing on providing opportunities to Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) and underserved communities.

The UWI Cave Hill Campus has signed an agreement with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) that will result in improved capacity-building, joint research opportunities and other areas of mutual benefit for both institutions. The signing took place in parallel to the historic 166th Regular Session of the IACtHR being hosted by the Cave Hill Campus from April 22 – 25.

For almost three decades, the American Foundation for The UWI (AFUWI) has dedicatedly garnered much-needed financial support for the best and brightest students of The University of the West Indies (The UWI). It has honoured the transformational contributions of outstanding individuals in the region and beyond. The legacy of giving, gratitude, and partnership continued at the 27^th Annual Awards Gala on April 18 at Park Avenue, New York City.
 
 

The increased use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) comes with challenges such as ethics, societal impact, regulatory uncertainty, data privacy, and labour displacement, yet AI has potential for societal good, such as increased efficiency, improved healthcare, and advancement in research and science. To explore the myriad challenges and opportunities for the Caribbean, the School for Graduate Studies and Research at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has established a network of researchers focused on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among academicians, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to ensure AI brings good to the region.

Dozens of international media and film production professionals gathered at The University of the West  Indies, Cave Hill campus on April 15 for the inaugural Cross Continental Forum (CCF), a high-profile gathering intent on fostering partnerships across the motion picture industry.

RBC Royal Bank (Barbados) Ltd raised BBD $100,000 for students at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Cave Hill Campus, during the eighth edition of the RBC Race of the Kids on Sunday.  More than 1,600 people participated in the event with some running the 5K course, while others walked and skated along the route at their own pace.  

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights will hold its 166th Regular Session in Barbados from April 22 to 26, following an invitation from the Government of Barbados. The different activities carried out during this Session will take place at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Cave Hill Campus, in the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management. 
 

The School for Graduate Studies and Research at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has launched an interdisciplinary network of researchers dedicated to better understanding and addressing the challenges faced by regional indigenous communities. The new research cluster for Indigenous Studies was launched on March 26, 2024.

The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus has partnered with regional airline, interCaribbean Airways to cater to the development of aviation students, and promote the growth of the regional air transport industry.  

The Institute for Gender and Development Studies at The University of the West Indies (UWI IGDS) has been around for 30 years. On the heels of the University’s 75^th jubilee, the Institute is commemorating its anniversary milestone throughout the 2023/2024 academic year, celebrating 30 years of Advocating for Gender Justice.
Established in 1993 first as a Centre, in 2008 it evolved into an autonomous, interdisciplinary, multi-campus institute. The Regional Coordinating Office (RCO) is based within the University’s Vice-Chancellery and the campus-based Units are located at the Mona, Jamaica, Cave Hill, Barbados, and St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.
