Childhood Nutrition Surveillance Study
25 September 2024
A newly launched study by The George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre at The UWI Cave Hill in partnership with the Shaw Centre for Paediatric Excellence, is seeking to better understand the nutritional health and dietary habits of primary school children in Barbados in an effort to shape policies to better support children’s health on the island.
The survey, which runs until June 2025, will focus on children aged six to 11. It will involve physical measurements, including height, weight, blood pressure and waist measurements, and a brief questionnaire.
The study has obtained ethical approval from The UWI Cave Hill Campus and the Ministry of Health Institutional Review Board, as well as the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training.
All eligible children and their parents or guardians have been invited to participate. They can register their interest by visiting the study site at
https://redcap.link/childnutrition or calling the research team at 246-255-3460. They may also return invitation forms distributed at randomly selected primary schools.
