The UWI Cave Hill and University of Dayton School of Law Partner to Launch Double LL.M. Programmes
15 October 2024
Students at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Cave Hill Campus, and the University of Dayton School of Law can now pursue two advanced degrees through a unique partnership, boosting their global career prospects and providing a deeper understanding of cross-border legal issues. This collaboration affords students the chance to earn an LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law or Intellectual Property Law from The UWI, alongside an LL.M. in American and Transnational Law from the University of Dayton, equipping them with comprehensive expertise in both Caribbean and American legal systems.
Under the new agreement, students may follow an accelerated pathway to complete both degrees, with partial tuition scholarships from the University of Dayton available to make these prestigious programs more accessible. The Double LL.M. Programmes are designed to provide a comprehensive legal education that prepares students for the challenges of a global legal environment, with a focus on both Caribbean and American legal systems.
Dr. Antonius Hippolyte, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law at The UWI Cave Hill Campus, described the partnership as a significant step forward for legal education in the region. “This collaboration with the University of Dayton opens new doors for our students, allowing them to broaden their legal expertise and intimately engage with the legal system of the largest economy globally. These programmes will equip them with the tools needed to excel in today’s interconnected world,” Hippolyte shared.
Margaret Ioannides, Assistant Dean for Online LL.M. Programmes at Dayton Law, highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership. “The collaboration with UWI reflects our continued effort to create meaningful international partnerships, offering students diverse educational experiences that enhance their understanding of law in a global context.”
This partnership also includes future opportunities for collaborative research and faculty exchanges, further enhancing the academic and professional development of students and staff at both institutions.
By working with the University of Dayton, The UWI aims to prepare a new generation of legal professionals who are capable of navigating complex, cross-border legal challenges. The Double LL.M. Programmes build on The UWI Cave Hill’s long-standing tradition of providing high-quality legal education within the Caribbean while expanding its global reach.
This agreement reflects The UWI’s commitment to preparing students for leadership roles in the rapidly evolving field of law and underscores the institution’s vision to develop globally minded legal professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a competitive global environment.
