Some of the Centre’s professional development offerings will carry Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development Units (PDUs). CEUs, also referred to as Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units, are a recognised measurement of non-credit course work, which can be credited towards designations and memberships in varying associations, and professional bodies. To this end, the Centre will work with local, regional and international associations and professional bodies to obtain recognition for its short courses.
The awarding policy for CEUs may vary across professional bodies and associations. Though varying professional bodies and associations will assign CEUs to the Centre’s courses based on their individual requirements, the CPDLL has its own CEU awarding policy for its Professional Development courses (i.e. one (1.0) CEU may be awarded for every ten (10) hours of participation in an approved short course).
Professional Development Units (PDUs) refers to the educational metric that Project Management Institute (PMI) credential holders must achieve to maintain their PMI credentials. One (1) PDU is awarded for each contact hour of participation in a professional development activity. PDUs are awarded for attending formal training or formal academic educational courses (courses being offered by a university or college) related to project management, offered by PMI Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s) or third party providers. Courses eligible for PDUs should cover topics that are substantially consistent with the Exam Content Outline for PMI certification. Thus, courses must have a project management element. However, courses do not have to focus 100% on project management. When only a portion of the course relates to project management, the PDUs earned can be calculated by the percentage of overall curriculum focused on the topic. For example, if 50% of the course covers project management topics, you can claim 50% of your hours of instruction.
Each CPDLL short course will specify the CEUs or PDUs being awarded.
