Cricket Pitch Preparation and Field Maintenance

Overview

This course provides delegates with the skills and knowledge in the effective preparation of cricket pitches and maintenance of fields. Delegates will gain a well-rounded theoretical and practical experience relating to pitch preparation and field maintenance.

What will I Learn?

By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

  • Plan and organise activities to ensure effective execution of tasks;

  2. Workplace Health & Safety Requirements
  3. Cricket Pitch Testing & Covering  
  4. Leading a Team of Workers on Turf Facilities
  5. Upgrading the Cricket Pitch and Outfield
  6. Planning and Managing the Control of Pests, Diseases and Disorders on Turf Facilities
  7. Managing Drainage and Irrigation Systems

This course will be delivered face-to-face and will be fully interactive, involving in-class/on the field discussions and practical assignments.  There will also be field trips undertaken as part of the “Managing Drainage and Irrigation Systems” and “Upgrading the Cricket Pitch and Outfield”  modules

Kent Crafton

Kent Crafton is the Cricket West Indies Regional Curator. His responsibilities include overseeing the preparation of pitches at all international cricket grounds in the region including Central Broward Regional Park in Florida and has worked with curators and groundsmen throughout the region. He has also been the curator at his home venue, the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia from its inception in 2002. He served as the CPL pitch and field consultant from 2014 and was a participant in an enhancement course held in Dubai organised by the ICC in 2012. Crafton has also facilitated workshops on behalf of Cricket West Indies for Regional curators and groundsmen and has been responsible for getting the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua back to international standards.

Colin Holligan

Colin Holligan is the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent on the Country Club golf course at the Sandy Lane Hotel. His daily responsibilities include assisting the golf course superintendent in maintaining a 200 plus acre golf course by managing a team of employees and utilising the most advanced and specialised equipment. Mr. Holligan is a hands-on turf grass management professional who not only enjoys managing turf but also developing persons in the science of turf grass management. Having worked in industry for the past 25 years and working with competency-based certification for the past 13 years, he brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and best practices to the industry and to his training approach.
