Overview

This workshop is designed for persons interested in learning more about how to develop a grant proposal. The workshop is applicable to anyone in the early stages of project development to those currently developing a proposal. It covers topics from formulating your project idea to developing a full proposal and how to make the most of your project and funding. There is also support for those wanting actionable advice and practical assistance. The workshop covers every aspect of writing a winning grant proposal and is suitable for those working in academic, NGOs or charities. Moreover, it also covers how to build relationships with funders and present a competitive proposal. For those working on a specific proposal there is an option that will allow them to obtain feedback from a grant writer. The workshop also has offline activities to help participants develop clear and engaging proposals.
 

What will I Learn?

On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Develop a project aim and objectives.
• Apply project management principles to develop an outline proposal.
• Develop a project plan including a Gantt chart from an outline proposal.
• Use an outline proposal to develop a budget plan.
• Evaluate funding calls to identify those that are appropriate.

This workshop is open to anyone with an interest or involvement in planning and developing a grant proposal.

The primary goals of this workshop are to:

1. Enable participants to design a project that is appropriate for a funding application.
2. Foster participants’ interpretation of funder guidelines to complete a grant application
3. Demonstrate how to make a grant application stand out.

Session 3: Finessing your project proposal for submission
• Identifying an evaluating suitable funding calls
• Create the right environment for success
Session 4: Making the most of your project: data sharing & impact
• Preparing your data for sharing
• Using your data for evaluating your project
• Communicating your outcomes

This workshop will be delivered synchronously online. Students will be engaged using the following teaching methodologies:

1. Lectures

Dr Selvi Jeyaseelan


Dr Selvi Jeyaseelan is a PhD-level researcher with over thirty years of experience, including grant-writing and responding to calls for proposals. She has written grants independently and as part of a team, with successes ranging from 20,000 to over 8 million US dollars. She has operated a busy research consultancy for the past fifteen years, focusing on the development and operation of projects providing evidence to policymakers from a range of developmental disciplines, and particularly in public health. Her ability to develop successful proposals has come from this hands-on experience with project development and management.
