This research methods course will introduce graduate students to a range of research methods, designs, techniques and analyses in the quantitative and qualitative methodologies that are essential to effective and efficient decision-making in various domains and sectors of business and wider society. Services Marketing

This course explores the core 8 “P” concepts in services marketing, and the tools used by marketers in the creation of service marketing strategies, tactics and plans. The course is broken into four overarching areas; Understanding Service Markets, Products & Customers; Building the Service Model; Managing the Customer Interface; and Implementing Profitable Service Strategies. To complement these areas the facilitator also incorporates case studies and local/ regional “best practices”.

Social, Economic, Political, Environmental Impact Assessment

In many parts of the world, social and environmental impact studies are now a prerequisite in developmental project applications. Decision makers therefore need data to determine which programs or policies would be most beneficial to society. Social and environmental impact assessment is a course designed to address the aforementioned issues. In this course, delegates will engage in an in- depth study and practice of key quantitative and qualitative methodologies that enable project management professionals and programme evaluators to determine the impact a proposed project will have, to evaluate whether a project in progress is on track to achieve its estimated impact, and/or to evaluate whether a completed or terminated project has achieved its promised impact.

Sports events attract large crowds, media attention and considerable corporate investment; they help to create national identity, are important to a country’s tourism appeal and can be a catalyst for host city legacies of new venues, regeneration and municipal infrastructure. Strategic Business Leader

This course will focus on leadership within the organisation through the examination of factors such as qualities of leadership, leadership and organisational culture as well as professionalism and ethical responsibilities. Additionally, the course will analyse various aspects of governance including agency, stakeholder analysis and social responsibility, and public sector governance. In this course, students will be introduced to the importance of strategy and risk management, and the role that technology and data analytics play in today’s business world. Moreover, the course will cover topics such as organisational control and audit, financial decision making in the organisation, and innovation and change management.

Strategic Business Reporting

This course will seek to explore, apply and evaluate the concepts, principles and practices involved in the preparation and interpretation of corporate reports in diverse contexts. Students will assess financial reporting from both the perspective of the preparer and from the perspective of various stakeholders such as finance providers. Moreover, this course will develop students’ understanding of the IASB’s Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting, and it will enable students to use the Framework as a basis for judgment in applying International Financial Reporting Standards in corporate reports. The course will also address current developments in financial reporting and the implications of any potential changes.

Strategic Human Resource Management

The emergence of a knowledge economy and society has contributed to the growing recognition that human resources now represent a critical investment that must be strategically managed to ensure success in an increasingly turbulent global marketplace. This course identifies how human resource management can gain credibility as a new strategic business partner and give credence to the often-quoted statement that ‘people are our most important asset’. The evolution of strategy and models of strategic human resource management form a substantive element in the course which also examines changing labour markets configurations.

Strategic Marketing for Tourism and Hospitality

Tourism is considered the world’s fastest growing industry. With the importance of tourism in global terms, there is increasing competition among destinations and tourism products. Being front of mind with the travelling consumer is therefore paramount for any destination and its tourism product suppliers. Strategic marketing becomes more critical with increasing competition and the ability to market successfully takes both knowledge and skill. This module therefore focusses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary for effective marketing and management of tourism by drawing extensively on the relevant theory essential to understanding this sector. This module also examines the strategic marketing planning process, recognizing marketing as an integral management component due to the competitive nature of the sector.

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage the technological infrastructure of a small IT environment that supports 100-500 employees. Topics to be covered includearchitectures, heterogeneous systems, authentication and security, network services including firewalls, storage services, performance analysis and tuning, management and configuration of services and system resources, system initialization, drivers, cross-platform services, policies and procedures. Students pursuing careers in system administration, network administration or software development; or those who desire deeper knowledge of how to manage the systems that are the foundation of all IT organizations will find this course beneficial. The course is very practical in nature and will be delivered by face-to-face instruction in the form of lectures and lab sessions. Some aspects of the course will be delivered online and through in-class discussions.

This course equips students with the tools they need to start the Web development process that is part of implementing e-Business/e-Commerce solutions.
