Service Quality in Hospitality & Tourism

This course will examine the many aspects of service quality as it relates to management, operations, human resources management, competitiveness, technology, and customer/guest satisfaction, all within the context of the Hospitality and Tourism industry. It draws upon the delegate’s wide range of basic disciplines to provide the fundamental knowledge and skills that are required to fulfil the diverse demands placed upon individuals in management positions within the hospitality and tourism industry.

Services Marketing

This course explores the core 8 “P” concepts in services marketing, and the tools used by marketers in the creation of service marketing strategies, tactics and plans. The course is broken into four overarching areas; Understanding Service Markets, Products & Customers; Building the Service Model; Managing the Customer Interface; and Implementing Profitable Service Strategies. To complement these areas the facilitator also incorporates case studies and local/ regional “best practices”.

Social, Economic, Political, Environmental Impact Assessment

In many parts of the world, social and environmental impact studies are now a prerequisite in developmental project applications. Decision makers therefore need data to determine which programs or policies would be most beneficial to society. Social and environmental impact assessment is a course designed to address the aforementioned issues. In this course, delegates will engage in an in- depth study and practice of key quantitative and qualitative methodologies that enable project management professionals and programme evaluators to determine the impact a proposed project will have, to evaluate whether a project in progress is on track to achieve its estimated impact, and/or to evaluate whether a completed or terminated project has achieved its promised impact.

Sport Policy and Development

Sport policy and development (TOUR 6160) seeks to provide the framework for understanding the development and management of sports within the national context; and its implications for tourism and sport development. In particular, the course considers how the administrative structures and policy agenda of various governments have supported (or not) the development of sports.

Sports and Events Management

Sports and Events Management

Sports events attract large crowds, media attention and considerable corporate investment; they help to create national identity, are important to a country’s tourism appeal and can be a catalyst for host city legacies of new venues, regeneration and municipal infrastructure. The aim of the Sport and Event Management module is to provide the delegate with the opportunity to develop a critical appreciation of the role of planning, bidding, funding, implementing and creating a legacy of sport events.

Strategic Business Leader

This course will focus on leadership within the organisation through the examination of factors such as qualities of leadership, leadership and organisational culture as well as professionalism and ethical responsibilities. Additionally, the course will analyse various aspects of governance including    agency, stakeholder analysis and social responsibility, and public sector governance. In this course, students will be introduced to the importance of strategy and risk management, and the role that technology and data analytics play in today’s business world. Moreover, the course will cover topics such as organisational control and audit, financial decision making in the organisation, and innovation and change management.
 

 

Strategic Business Reporting

Strategic Business Reporting

 This course will seek to explore, apply and evaluate the concepts, principles and practices involved in the preparation and interpretation of corporate reports in diverse contexts. Students will assess financial reporting from both the perspective of the preparer and from the perspective of various stakeholders such as finance providers. Moreover, this course will develop students’ understanding of the IASB’s Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting, and it will enable students to use the Framework as a basis for judgment in applying International Financial Reporting Standards in corporate reports. The course will also address current developments in financial reporting and the implications of any potential changes.

The emergence of a knowledge economy and society has contributed to the growing recognition that human resources now represent a critical investment that must be strategically managed to ensure success in an increasingly turbulent global marketplace.  This course identifies how human resource management can gain credibility as a new strategic business partner and give credence to the often-quoted statement that ‘people are our most important asset’. The evolution of strategy and models of strategic human resource management form a substantive element in the course which also examines changing labour markets configurations.

Strategic Marketing for Tourism and Hospitality

Tourism is considered the world’s fastest growing industry. With the importance of tourism in global terms, there is increasing competition among destinations and tourism products. Being front of mind with the travelling consumer is therefore paramount for any destination and its tourism product suppliers. Strategic marketing becomes more critical with increasing competition and the ability to market successfully takes both knowledge and skill. This module therefore focusses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary for effective marketing and management of tourism by drawing extensively on the relevant theory essential to understanding this sector. This module also examines the strategic marketing planning process, recognizing marketing as an integral management component due to the competitive nature of the sector.

System Administration

System Administration

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage the technological infrastructure of a small IT environment that supports 100-500 employees. Topics to be covered includearchitectures, heterogeneous systems, authentication and security, network services including firewalls, storage services, performance analysis and tuning, management and configuration of services and system resources, system initialization, drivers, cross-platform services, policies and procedures. Students pursuing careers in system administration, network administration or software development; or those who desire deeper knowledge of how to manage the systems that are the foundation of all IT organizations will find this course beneficial. The course is very practical in nature and will be delivered by face-to-face instruction in the form of lectures and lab sessions. Some aspects of the course will be delivered online and through in-class discussions.

 

System Quality Assurance

System Quality Assurance

This course focuses on software system quality assurance and its relevant metrics as an important part of the development of games, mobile applications and web applications. The reviewed techniques span the software development phases from requirements through delivery and maintenance. This is an essential module for students who are pursuing careers in application development, Web development, software testing or IT project management. The material in this course will be delivered using face-to-face and online lectures, hands-on labs, and class discussions.

Web Technologies

Web Technologies

This course equips students with the tools they need to start the Web development process that is part of implementing e-Business/e-Commerce solutions. They will learn about Web site development, the tools used to create flexible and responsive websites and the fundamentals of Web application design and development. Students pursuing careers in Web application development, content management and curation, software development or web site design, will benefit from this course. The delivery mechanisms used for this course include face-to-face lectures, online and in-class discussions, class presentations and hands-on labs.
