Overview

Employees are a vital part in determining the success of a business. Finding the best employees for each position requires strong recruitment strategies because top talent is hard to find. This Recruitment and Selection course provides delegates with an understanding of recruitment and selection methods and processes. The role of recruitment and selection is examined in this course, in relation to an organization’s overall profitability or viability.

What will I Learn?

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  • Critically discuss the importance and relevance of recruitment and selection to organisations;
  • Identify the major legal issues affecting recruitment and selection, and discuss recruitment and selection systems that meet legal requirements;
  • Apply the requirements for measures used in staff selection and recruitment to evaluate applicants fairly and in an unbiased fashion;
  • Illustrate the role of competencies and performance management in recruitment and selection;
  • Evaluate the role that human resources planning, organisational and job analysis have in selection;
  • Explain the scientific foundation of recruitment and selection research and practice;
  • Articulate the importance of having the results of empirical research on recruitment and selection inform the use of these practices in organisational settings;
  • Make an accurate assessment of the requirements of a vacancy;
  • Produce  a constructive person specification;
  • Shortlist against selection criteria;
  • Develop and participate in an interview process;
  • Make an objective and justifiable selection decision;
  • Critically evaluate the recruitment and selection practices being used by organisations.

Individuals who meet the entry requirements for postgraduate level training, including human resource professionals and managers who are in involved in staff recruitment, selection and resourcing talent, who want to contribute to the improvement of their organization’s recruitment and selection practices.

  • Applicants must bring all required documentation to the Department of Management Studies, Graduate Section, for their application to be processed.
  • Individuals applying for postgraduate modules, whose native language is not English, must take tests,  to demonstrate English Language proficiency prior to registration, as identified in the Manual of Procedures re: Regulations for Graduate Diplomas and Degrees (Sec. 1, Para. 5).

For entry into this course, applicants must have at least an undergraduate degree, or five (5) years relevant work experience. Applicants may also be asked to provide an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae.
The teaching methods used in this course include the Interactive Lecture, in-class and online discussion (via eLearning), case study, and Classroom Exercises including, Experiential Learning Activities and Syndicate and Group Activities. In addition, multi-media such as Power Point and DVDs will also be incorporated in each session. Readings from journals and books will be assigned for each topic addressed in the lectures.
