Upon completion of this short course, delegates should be able to:
Use performance management as a management vehicle for achieving organisational goals and fostering employee and organisational growth;
Assist their organisation in improving its productivity and efficiency;
Align their organisation’s performance management system and processes with their organisation’smission and strategy;
Assist their organisation with implementing a best practice performance management system in their organisation;
Create job expectations and set acceptable standards of performance for employees that are aligned with their organisation’s strategic objectives;
Formulate and set SMART departmental and employee performance objectives that are consistent with their organisation’s strategic and operational objectives;
Align performance management processes and practices with HR functions;
Reduce resistance and increase reception of performance management practices in their organisation through effective communication;
Link performance evaluation, employee development, and rewards to motivate employees and achieve business objectives;
Assist their organisation in training, developing, supporting, evaluating, and rewarding employees more effectively;
Implement best practice to guide the performance appraisal process in their organisation;
Communicate meaningfully with employees throughout the year on performance issues;
Enable managers and supervisors to handle performance issues with confidence;
Reward good performance using both financial and non-financial methods.

Previous schooling and academic achievements are not required for entry into this short course. Delegates are however expected to have basic literacy skills.
The delivery methods to be utilised in this short course are inclusive of: facilitator-led discussions, presentations, video, individual activity-based development, group exercises, and case studies.
Dr. Corbin, currently a Lecturer in management at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, is a specialist in the disciplines of leadership, human resource management/development, business strategy and sustainable competitiveness. Prior to becoming a lecturer at UWI, he provided human resource consulting services to both private and public companies across the Caribbean; in particular, the tourism and hospitality industry and financial services organisations. His main research interests are leadership and competitiveness through innovation and harmony; leadership and human resource management; and leadership and performance in cricket.
