ICT, Innovation and Change

Overview

This course will introduce important approaches to technology innovation and key ICT innovation trends will be examined. Furthermore, students will be introduced to innovation concepts and terminology, and they will learn how to evaluate new ideas based on their innovative value, feasibility and viability. Topics to be covered include new and emerging technologies, ICT innovation management, ICT innovation systems, ICT innovation strategies, and ICT and change.
 

What will I Learn?

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of key ICTs used within organisations;
  • Formulate effective ICT-based innovation strategies based on research and evaluation of business trends;
  • Leverage ICTs to achieve specific organisational goals;
  • Develop an organisational culture that fosters ICT innovation;
  • Adapt to continuous changes precipitated by ICTs within an organisation;
  • Successfully manage change within an organisation with the introduction of new ICTs.

Important Information

Innovation is a critical determinant of organisational performance, and thus it is essential for companies to incorporate new innovative systems and information technologies to facilitate successful business operations, planning and development. This is especially true in the ever-changing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) environment. This course will introduce students to new and emerging technologies used in today’s technological world. Furthermore, it will illustrate the ways in which these technologies have revolutionised how businesses are able to capitalise on ICTs within their organisations. Moreover, the course will also introduce students to important approaches to technology innovation and will examine key ICT innovation trends. It will examine the changes that accompany the rapid development of these ICTs in order to prepare students to effectively manage these changes.

The goals of this course are to:

  • Develop students’ knowledge of ICTs including new and emerging technologies;
  • Assess the role of ICTs as an agent of innovation within organisations;
  • Develop students’ capacity to adapt to changes in ICTs within an organisation.
