Overview

Before data can be manipulated to generate key insights for effective business decision making, databases must be built and a structure for their management established. As private enterprises, governmental organizations and academic institutions become progressively data driven, skills in database engineering and management will become increasingly essential. This course will equip you with the tools needed to engineer and manage databases; that is, tools in data capture, data retrieval, data analysis and techniques for the transformation of data into useful information.

Basic Computer Usage (Ability to use a word processor, Internet Usage)

This course will be delivered using a combination of interactive discussions and tutorial sessions. One hour will be devoted to discussion and one hour devoted to a lab weekly for 5 weeks. During discussion sessions, the course topics will be presented and discussed. Focus on real-life practical scenarios will be utilized drawing on the student’s experience. During the lab, students will execute a task related to the topic discussed.
All discussions sessions will be delivered face-to-face.

Xavier Caddle
 

Xavier Caddle is a part-time lecturer connected to the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics in the Faculty of Science and Technology. In this capacity he has taught courses ranging from Database Management Systems, Web Applications and Information Technology Engineering. Before embarking teaching, he spent years as a Software Developer and Engineer in the financial sector.
