Overview

As the regional population ages and becomes more aware of the need to secure its financial future, the demand for specialist skills in financial and retirement planning will increase. This course is designed to transform individuals with basic/intermediate training in accounting, finance or financial management into proficient financial and estate/retirement planners and advisers. Using cutting edge models and tools, you will be trained in budgeting, risk management, investment composition, monitoring, navigating the regulatory environment and most importantly, in comprehensive financial planning and estate management from the ground up. The course will be delivered by an industry specialist dedicated to the use of practical, real life examples from the domestic environment, in order to ensure the applicability of core principles learnt.

Delegates should have tertiary training in accounting, finance and financial management, and working in the fields of banking, accounting or finance with a strong interest in career advancement. Alternatively, 2 years relevant work experience in a business-related field.

This course will be delivered face to face through a variety of methods including highly interactive lectures, group work and class room discussions.

Michael Millar

Mr. Michael Millar is currently the Assistant Vice President, Investments within Sagicor Asset Management Inc with direct responsibility for the management and execution of the investment policy of the Barbados Segregated Pension Funds, Mutual Funds and the Eastern Caribbean Fund.  Mr. Millar also manages private client pension Funds held outside the collective investment vehicle structures within the Sagicor Asset Management Department.
Mr. Millar has 8 years of experience in investment management.  He joined Sagicor back in 2009 and prior to joining Sagicor, he has held the positions of Graduate Trainee within Republic Bank Limited formerly Barbados National Bank and Junior Trader within the offshore sector of Barbados.
Mr. Millar is currently a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and a member of the Barbados CFA Society and the CFA institute.  He holds an MSc in Finance and Investments from University of Edinburgh, Business School; and a BSc (hons) in Management from the University of the West Indies.  Mr. Millar is also a published co-author in UK based journal entitled:  Pensions An International Journal.
